Chassis:
Chassis FW05/3 was the only one of the three cars that started life as a Williams FW05. It was first raced by Jackie Ickx during the French Grand Prix at Paul Ricard. He managed to qualify for and actually finish the race, in 10th position. At the subsequent British Grand Prix, Ickx failed to qualify FW05/3 and was promptly fired from the team. In the hands of Arturo Merzario, it fared no better; retiring from all of the races. In the next years the car was campaigned in the Aurora AFX championship, first as a Williams and later as a Hesketh.
In recent years chassis FW05/3 was restored to its original condition. With the other two cars returned to Hesketh 308C specification, it is the only Williams FW05 in existence. The unique car is seen here at the 2010 Monaco Historic Grand Prix and later in the year at the Goodwood Festival of Speed where it set the fastest time up the hill.
