Chassis:
One of four prototypes, this example was sent as a rolling chassis to Zagato late in 1985. Each of these were fitted with the 'V' specification engine, which was used by the sister car for acceleration and high speed tests by none other than Roy Salvadori. Fitted with bored out Weber carburettors, the V-spec unit was good for around 450 bhp, which was as much as 50 bhp more than fitted in the 'regular' production cars. Finished in 'Gladiator Red', the completed car returned from Zagato along with the three other prototypes early in 1986. It may have been used by Aston Martin during the press launch but it remains unclear which two exactly were shown in Geneva.
The car was subsequently acquired by Wensley Hayden-Baillie. He turned out to be a most demanding client as he emphasised that only a car with the V-spec engine would suffice for him, which is why he was allocated 20011. Hayden-Baillie also requested a roll-bar to be fitted, which meant the whole body had to be taken off again for it to be mounted. The current owner is a great Aston Martin enthusiast, who has owned several V8 Vantage Zagatos, and still has a competition version, which he regularly races, as well. He is particularly fond of this car, which he acquired in the mid-1990s and has since used extensively on the road, not only in Europe by also in Australia and New Zeeland. Between 2010 and 2013, it was carefully restored by Auto Restorations in New Zeeland. Chassis 20011 is the only one of the four prototypes that is still in the original configuration it was delivered in 30 years ago.
