Chassis:
The fourth of five 312 T4s built, this example was allocated exclusively to Jody Scheckter for the 1979 Formula 1 World Championship. The career of chassis 040 started with back-to-back victories in the Belgian and Monaco Grands Prix. Scheckter also finished second in this car at the Dutch Grand Prix and then added a third victory to its tally during the Italian Grand Prix. With three wins and four further points finishes, this T4 was almost singlehandedly for Scheckter’s World Championship. Of the five 312 T4s built, three were rebuilt to 312 T5 configuration. Chassis was preserved in its original condition and was subsequently acquired from Ferrari by Scheckter himself in 1982. Since then, it has been occasionally shown and demonstrated at events around Europe. Along with the rest of the Jody Scheckter Collection, chassis 040 was consigned to the 2024 RM Sotheby’s Monaco sale.
