Chassis:
Not all of the 'catalogue' bodies were built by Bugatti. Some of the work was outsourced to befriended coachbuilder Gangloff. They followed the general lines of the Jean Bugatti designs but added their own touches. A great example is the featured Type 57 SC Gangloff Atalante, just one of three short-chassis 57s bodied by the French coachbuilder. At first glance it looks similar to the 'standard' Atalante but the rear end is longer and the front fenders feature a unique kink and faired in headlights. Much of the trim, for example the chrome strakes on the sides of the engine covers, is also different from the catalogue Atalante.
Originally ordered by a French customer in 1937, it has since changed hands many times. Among the owners was French Bugatti expert/collector Nicolas Seydoux. It entered an impressive Dutch collection in 1993 and remains there to this day. The current owner showed the very striking Gangloff Bugatti during the 2008 Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. Here it won the Trofeo Girard-Perregaux, the special prize of the jury. The very rare Gangloff Atalante is pictured above at Villa d'Este and at the nearby Villa Erbe.
