Chassis:
Commissioned by the flamboyant Standard Oil heiress, Beatrice Cartwright, this particular Teardrop Coupé is the only combining the 'New York' design with the T23 'Baby' chassis. Finished in a lovely two-tone scheme, the car also has several unique external features like the exposed headlights and twin bar bumper. Also known as the 'Coupé Royal', the Talbot Lago was entered in the 1938 Nice Concours d'Elegance where it was awarded the Grand Prix d'Honneur.
Like many cars of this era, chassis 93041 resurfaced in the United States after the War. It was entered but in the end did not participate in a race at Watkins Glen. The 'Teardrop' was subsequently displayed at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York for the 'Eight Great Automobiles' exhibition. It passed through several more hands before it was disassembled for restoration in the 1960s. In this condition, it was acquired by the current owner, who did have the car beautifully restored. His wife had a matching suit made, similar to that worn by Cartwright in Nice back in 1938. The car was first shown at Pebble Beach in 2001 and ten years later returned to Europe for the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
