Chassis:
Featured is the third 250 Monza constructed and the first bodied by Scaglietti. It was sold early in 1954 to Franco Cornacchia, who entered the car for Gerini in many races. After the successful 1954 'Carrera', he sold the car to Guatamalan Mercedes-Benz dealer Manfredo Lippmann. He entered the car for the 1955 Sebring 12 Hours, but it was damaged before the race and could not start. He subsequently brought the car back to his native Central America, where he recorded at least two victories. The most successful of the four 250 Monzas finally retired from racing in 1958.
In the following decades the rare Ferrari racing car changed hands and paint jobs almost every couple of years. Early in this decade it was painted bright red and offered in the 2002 RM Monterey Sports car auction where it sold for $1.55 million. It has subsequently been restored to its 1954 Carrera PanAmericana livery and changed hands again at least two times. In its very striking 'Carrera' livery it is pictured above during the 2005 Quail, a Motorsports Gathering where the legendary Mexican road race was celebrated and during the 2007 Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance.
