"I wonder how many of you guys have actually driven both the M3 and the S4? Well I have tested both, and I can tell you the S4 is simply a better car. I wanted to buy an M3. I have always wanted an M3. But when I tested them both, I could not believe how much better the S4 is. Yes, in a straight line in test conditions, the M3 might just be 0.1s faster on the 0-60 dash. But this all done in first gear! Try real world driving: put your foot down in third at say 1,500. In the M3, nothing happens! Its like driving a 320 Coupe. Do the same in the S4 and it pins you to the seat. Its just unbelievable. And around corners? The M3 is like real twitchy. You constantly think you'll be in the ditch at any moment. The S4 is just on rails. The M3 is just so much more ""raw"". I can see why some hardcore track-day racing fans might prefer it because you do get more ""feel"" in the M3. But for normal people who want a superbly built, fast, safe, fun car - the S4 is just miles better. Chip."

"audi used to play with turbos but they decided to drop them because they just didn't suit the character of the cars that they were making. yes the s4 will be compared to the M3 but it is a totally different car which is why the avant version exists. M3 are for hose who want to slide around corners like the maniacs that they are. the S4 on the other hand are for those who wish to hurtle past things at ease. this is why putting a turbo into it would be pointless because no matter how much work you do, you can't beat the progressiveness of a good engine. i still don't really understand why people like turbos so much. and for the M3 fans out there, the S4 has about an extra 30lbs/ft of torque. this means that at mid engine range (where most work will be done), the S4 will be pulling easily while the M3 will be working hard. if you like, the S4 is almost an ""anti M3"". it does everything the M3 can do except it is glued to the road."

If you have, the M3 may beat the S4 on a drag race, but when the Stig (their in house professional race car driver) took both cars to their famous racing course, the S4 beats the M3 and WRX by 1 second and 4 seconds, respectively. Stig, BTW, is a professional race car driver and one who can deliver consistent timing on a track

The Audi S4 is great, it should have been a little more aggressive looking. And inside could do with a little sunshine, but who looks down for long, while blazin along the Atobahn at 200km/h.Moose you need to know the facts before you judge, All Subarus have a 5 star crash safety rating. And if you really drive high class MBs. Please stay out of dicussions about cars that are for thenot so affluent people. Looking forward to see you in the mirror of my WRX STi.

Well somehow i believe that the projected figures for 0-60 acceleration are off. The current S4 has been recorded as doing 0-60 in as fast as 5.5 seconds already, so somehow i feel the new one will do it in at least 5 seconds flat. AS for this car, it still has quattro all wheel drive, lots of power, and manual transmission, but i still dont believe that it is any match for the current BMW M3. Certainly wont be any match performance wise for the WRX Sti. Audi still has a great record for well built cars, with fabulous fit and finish, and they are fun to drive. Im sure a next generation RS4 is in the works as engine output continues to increase.

Either Audi is publishing bogus HP claims for the new 4.2 V8 in the upcoming S4 OR they have their Grammas doing the roadtest driving. There is no way that a 344HP, 6 speed, all wheel drive, 3650 lb. vehicle would be unable to do better than a paltry 5.6 0-62 mph sprint. Hell, the 250 HP 2.7 could do that well. Maybe Audi believes in soft launches & leisurely shifts. If that's the case, I would expect an aggressive driver to be able to turn 0-60 times in the high 4s and 1/4 mile times in the mid to low 13s at about 107 mph. I plan on finding out next summer since my 01 S4 is going to be traded for a V8 S4.
this S4 again shows that Audi doed not belong in the big lea

4.2 V8... commendable, or is it. AMG did it with the C class W 202, where they fitted the 4.3 V8 in an A segment frame. Brabus also has been more sucessful, where they have fitted the 6.5 V8 in the C as well as the SLK. I beleive that those engines are bound to be a lot bigger. But coming back to this S4, 5.5 seconds dosent even scorch the surface of the E46 M3 and the W203 C32. I mean those cars take off almost .7-.8 seconds off this car in the 0-60 times. The surprising thing is that this 4.2 V8 churns out more hp than the 3.2V6 of the benz and the 3V6 of the BMW. So either the figures here are faulty or AUDI AG had better get some enhancement to this bahn chomper if its going to get close to the other swabians.

"Somehow I don't believe that Audi introduced this beast in order to compete with M3, or anyother BMW or Mercedes. If they wanted such a car they could have introduced a more sporty (perhaps a coupe) car. In my opinion S4 (with a V8) came to life for just one reason, to make a statement. Over the past 15 years VAG is trying to present Audi as an executive car Brand. I don't know about you but I don't see many simmilarities between the mid 1980's Audi 80 and todays A4. And S4 is a part of Audi's (succesful) attempt to move up into the big leage. It's Audi's way of saying to BMW, Mercedes but mainly the rest of the world: ""We' ve got the technology, we' ve got the knowhow and we' ve got the will to make cars like this"" I will not be surprised if in the next 20 or so years VW will be moved to Audi's position while Audi is presented as a more exotic- expensive brand."""

I like the thought of fitting in a V8 in this small sedan. But i have to say that i think that they should have stuck with the twin turbo V6. I know that there are a lot of people that disagree with this but because there is an electronic speed limiter, it defeats the purpose of the larger displacement V8. I think that increasing the psi in the turbos for this model and enhancing the intake and extake would still make this car more exciting than the last S4. But, aside from the engine change, 344 hp in this car will make it a minature land speed record car. Even though it isnt quite up to par with the M3's performance, it will still be a major competitor and the M3 is smaller and sportier. I think that if Audi would come up with a more powerful TT it would be a perfect competitor for the M3.Unless Audi came up with a 2-door S4...
 Why Wolfgang loves this Audi.

"So Wolfgang is the Project Manager on the S4. After a long conversation over the phone with his boss, Wolfgang realized that this project was like no other, and then, out of no where, the boss goes: V8!. To his surprise, Wolfgang drops his mug of ""De-caf Beer"" [ for that read: Usual Suspects ] on the floor and his eyes flare with glitter....All he can imagine was this S4 Storming out of corners, slashing the straights, eating Benzes and BMW's for breakfast. His life is now perfect, well all he needs now is another ""Employee of the week"" Mug. Wolfgang, like me, knows that the taboo has been broken, A V8 in a Compact Exec. First the RS6 and now this, Audi will no longer need to be over silent about its affiliation with Porsche. In a couple of years I would expect to see the Porsche logo on more Audi Catalogues. """
