"i saw some pictures of the 2004 BMW X3. i liked its futurism but i am doubtful about its looks.the details on the exterior on the front, side & rear are quite the same on the concept.the interior is ofcourse different but the shape is the same.it also features the pop up screen also in the Z4.i also went to bm's website: bmwworld.com & was surprised to read that the X3 belongs to the 3 series as it read-""Announcing the latest 3 Series, the all-wheel drive BMW X3"". i still love the X5 bcoz of its bold looks & a much better SUV/SAV."

he is good and why can't he design SUVs/SAVs. He is basically taking a new approach on the design of Bmws. He is looking in the futuristic direction not the past that is why all his cars look very strange to most people. The i-drive is actually quite east to use though. Most journalist a are so used to buttons all over the place thats why when BMW came out with a knob with 700 fuctions they all got confused, real confused although audis MMI is still better. Bangles design is not clean actually. It is very complicating but all the complication does not look bad. This is not going into production. it is just a first show of what the X3 is going to be like. i have seen the X3(pictures) and it looks fantastic. It looks much better than the X5 but the x5 is still better. I give bangle the award of being the designer of year 2002 and 2003. Good Job Bangle!!!
 why not?

As a response to Unknown: I agree with some things you say although I don't like the Z4 too much and I do believe it's a good exercise to venture into new territories eg. SUVs. I think the present X5 is a remarkably cool vehicle. I like it more than this concept.

... I think I like Chris Bangle's designs. They are original and fresh, and interesting. The 7-series and Z4 both achieve their purpose and fulfill their task of looking good in their category. However, I do NOT think Mr. Bangle should design SUVs, or SAVs, for that matter. BMW should stick to what they are good at: sporty sedans and great sportscars. SUVs (and SAVs) oppose BMW's philosophy in every possible way. Why get swept up in these fads?
 Is This Going Into Production?

Is this going into production becuase that's what it sounds like from most of yall. If this is the actual production model of the X3 or some other BMW SUV, or I should say SAV, than this will be a bit of a screw up. The interior would be rediculous for an actual production car and hopefully the iDrive will be an option. If BMW has read any reviews by car magazines then they will know by now to only use the iDrive as an option. I thought that this was a concept car. That's why I didn't understand the criticism. If this is,in fact, the production version, then they have made a mistake. If it is a concept than I don't see anything wrong with it.

"let's face it, this bmw is not as ugly as the 7 series, it's sort of stuck somewhere between an x5 and a 7 series, the production version of the sav will sell well simply becuase it's a bmw and has that shiny bmw badge on the hood and to make people say ""wow, a bmw, that person must be rich"". i thought the interior would be more like the x5, but i'm very dissapointed, it's poorly executed, has that cheap look and it has the idrive, which is overly complicated and only computer geeks find it easy. i was never a bmw fan, but the x5 and z8 caught my interest in bmw, the arrival of the 7 series pushed me away from bmw and this sav will only push me further"""
At least its not the same old thing

Im not saying that this (along with the other creations by chris bangle) are works of art. But, at least they are something different for a change. I know that most companies have come out with a few high tech looking models but very few. I'm just glad to see that a company is doing something different for a change. And who would be better than BMW. Its kind of hard for me to decide wether i like these creations or not. They are just new ideas in my mind.

"won't bmw built it. It will be a turning point of their history when they launch this thing. it would be real popular in asia because people now they are looking at these kind of stuff. Look at the seven series. Firstly there was not even 10 in singapore now you see one every 10 mins. No matter what type of BMW it is, people will still buy it and they are still better than mercedes benz, anytime. Subwoofa i do not think negative about all cars but nothing is perfect. To me cas from BMW is all about taste; wheather you like it or not. BMW are capable of doing anything nowdays and have you all heard of their new upmarket MPVs which will be called the V5 and V3 and BMW is thinking of puting it into production by 2004-2006 and to me the MPVs look much more radical and futuristic than the XActivity. Nowdays the new cars which Bangle designs all look like concepts and most of them are going into production not like most car companies. You all should stop critisizing the cars bangle makes because sometime or the other other car companies are going to make their production cars look very futuristic. I say BMW is on the right track but bangle should tone down his designing just a little bit so BMWs look just perfect."""
 SAVs...

SAV stands for Sucky-Ass Vehicle... ...as clearly shown by this futile attempt at creating an automobile. Still, it's because such a car came out of BMW that I'm worried.

Motorhead, I see you as someone who thinks negative about every single car and not positive. This vechicle, is made for showing purposes, I doubt you will ever see this thing on the road and your acting as if this is BMW's next big thing. No, although I really like this vechicle, it shouldn't be looked at in this perspective.

"You have completely missed the point. I will agree with you that Chris Bangle needs to be Castrated, but the styling ain't the point of my comments. My comments centre round the fact that BMW have simply come out with a ""Me Too"" vehicle with the X3. yet another attempt to symbolise that the brand is young, funky, hip, trendy ETC. and will once again completely miss the point. I was not mentioning the fatc the interior has EDrive, hence lowering the amount of buttons, i was mentioning that i would be more than apprehesive about placing a muddy mountain bike in the back of this thing, simply because its a bimmer that i would have paid for. Tell me you woul;dn't and i would call you a liar."""

Thid car makes me think of a Daewoo Tacuma, and if there is one thing that I hate it is thinking about a Daewoo Tacuma.
 the interior...........

2-1-2003
will not be like that. it will be much more confusing with buttons all over the place. Anyway this is BMWs answer to the crossover vehicle. It looks clean and much better then other bmws by bangle. This would be a real popular type of car because people nowdays are into travelling long distances and bmw are targetting the young buyers so i certainly hope this would go into production!!!
 Ah, Motorhead...

This is a CROSSOVER vehicle correct? a vehicle that has been morphed and copied hundreds of times? if anything thexActuvuty is unoriginal, moving into an area already occupied by countless other manufacturers. And anyway, can you honestly tell me you'd dirty the interior of this thing with a mountain bike?
how many times must i say this.........

they are looking at the future not the past. which car company wants to look at the past. They want to build things which are for younger people not the old men which always buy their cars. Nowdays car manufacturers are making cars which can do multiple tasks. Look at the citroein C3 pluriel. It is like a five in one kind of car. It is actually a hatchback which can be changed into a coupe, targa or pickup truck. Bangle is going to the extreame in design which no other car company dared to do but BMW dared. Good for them!!

This car has me in a bi of a Quandry. You see, i like bmws, my parents own a beemer and i love every second of driving around in it. but BMW are comp[romising on the Values they have that shaped there company. Cars like the new X3 (which the X-Activity is meant to be Previewing) and X5 are destroying the brandname they stick on the hood of the car. lets go back to the old days when a SUV was meant to be used as intended, not used as a fashionable tank.
 "BMW's ""xActivity"""""

"I too am a BMW enthusiast, however to comment on the statements of another user, why would BMW want to put a V8 into an automobile that is meant to be a lower model than the X5? The bottom of the line X5 has the same inline 6 engine as this xActivity. Anyways, i do not agree with the tail of the ""SAV"", as BMW has chosen ridiculous rear looks for their newer cars. However, i must agree, that BMW is heading in an awkward direction as they have designed hotly debated looks for the new cars, most notably the new 7. It is my hope that they redeem themselves in the design of the much anticipated E55 eating M5. Personally, the look of the upcoming M5 and M6 will truly point BMW's anticipated direction."""

This is the new age bmw people. They(with the stupid help of that dumb ass Bangle) are building things which look worst than rubbish trucks but here is the catch. Their cars nowdays are so damn good nobody cares about the design unless you are some design freek. Look at the seven series. Looks like something on a drawing paper of a kindergarden student but check out their valvetronic engine. It is the most advenced engine on the planet. The other thing is the idrive. It is actually very easy to use unless you are a retarded fool who does not know what the hell 2+2 is(but i still perfer audis Multi Media Interfrence) then BMW came out with this. it is actually not the xactivity but it is called the x3cruiser. Just look at the wonderful X5. It is a fantastic vehicle. This is something like the X5 but in a different classification. It is something new from BMW and i bet would be very popular everywhere. Nowdays buyers are looking for different things that is why BMW are building different stuff. Nowdays people are starting to prefer BMW to mercedes benz. If BMW goes on making their usual stuff do you think they will survive in this very competitive car world. That is what Christopher Bangle(chief designer of BMW) and Helmut Panke(CEO of BMW)are trying to do to BMW. They are old men but they do not think like the old men at mercedes benz. The other car manufacturer who is doing very well is audi. Just look at them and their cars. They are just trying their best to make the fastest estates on the planet and the nicest looking too and have BMW and Mercedes Benz thought of that. Hell, they do not even have a estate which accelerates in less than 6sec. If mercedes bemz does not think of something now, they are dead and three cheers to audi and BMW!!!!!!

"Now it's obviously SAV time, let's wait for SIV, SOV's or SEV's. I am looking forward for suggestions about the meaning of these acronyms (I for idiot, O for Obnoxious, E for Enigmatic and please can't we just change the S to Stupid?) What a revolution. This also goes for this ""great improvement"" in luggage handling. Even if it slides out, you still have to lift it very high to compensate for the enormous ground clearence and the rear drive train. Just look at a regular Citroen C5 Break and you will find a button at the rear that will allow you to considerably lower the car during (off)loading activities, thanks to its unique hydraulic suspension system. """
 BMW: Wrong direction!!!!!!!!!

"I can't believe BMW, such a great company, famous for its sedans and sportscars would... would produce a piece of crap like this. I don't know who is head of BMW's operations, but he's a complete idiot. It's ok to experiment with new automobiles, but this is ridiculous. BMWs are not meant to be taken offroad nor are they meant to look ugly. If BMW's new design direction is bad, then their product direction is HORRIBLE, DISGUSTING, and downright WRONG (forgive me for the caps, but I'm trying to emphasize something). The Z4 and 7 series aren't that bad, but if BMW screw up the new 3,5, and 6 series, I'm gonna be pissed. I never liked SUVs, but I had hopes that a few automakers would be intelligent enough to stay away... yet I was mistaken. The X5 sucked, and the X3 and 4, or whatever the hell BMW is gonna churn out in the coming years will suck as well. BMW: sedans, sports cars. BMW is the antimatter, negatived counterpart, opposite, negatice charge of SUVs. Figures. Although the company only sinks lower with cars like this ""xActivity"" (which's purpose remains a mystery), it still has some hope in my eyes. We'll let the 3, 5, and 6-series be the decisive models."""

i am a big bmw fan. i really like this car, but let us not forget that this is a concept. it most certainly will not look like this when they start producing it. bmw engineers should put a v8 engines in this sav, but a 6 cylinder is also good, but very good. after all, this is a wonderfuul car, i just hope it will not be too expensive so that i can buy one for myself.
