The DBAR1 was a venture by the Zagato design studio. All of Zagato's cars are built in small numbers; Aston Martin had no control over this. So it wasn't that this car wasn't a big seller ... if anything it was because most of the cars were preordered before they were built. Amazing considering it has the same performance as the DB7 Vantage Volante which was half the price.

you people must be out of your minds sayoing this car is ugly. Zagato makes some of the most spectacular cars in the world and has worked its magic here again! it took a highly venerable car such as the db7 ( wich some say is one of the most beautifull machines of the 90's) nd made ane incredible garnd tourer with tons of style and performance! all these coments about the "ugly" tail lights and grill are full ignorance and lack knowledge. Look in your history books and you shall see these are trademarks of zagato and make a very beautifull retro flow in this modern zagato.
 bad rear lights, nice car

the front and sides of the car are beautiful even though the grill looks like it came from an oversized ford thunderbird its great the curves are smooth and have no "rough edges" as for the rear lights it could use something more of an eyeopener they're too small and dont go along with the lines of the car, overall i love this car

the purpose of these comments are for people's opinions. My opnion on this car, is that it has a beautiful shape, and its soemthing a bit different from the Aston Martin factory, something new and amazing that we're not used to seeing. Because all late model astons are very alike. This car is powerful and fast, and i bet it makes for a damn good time out on the open road. But my opinion is also that you went a bit harsh, maybe??....just a little? Go see a doctor car_ad, i think you need some quiet alone time. Other people have to read your b/s. Great job Aston, keep it up, I love your cars.

Its a little harsh to call this an 'ugly' car. I dont think it quite measures up to other Astons but this is still a very nice car. Plenty of power too considering that this is a luxury convertible.

"Contrary to most of the comments posted about this car, I believe that Zagato did a fine job with this car. I was rather dissapointed to read how much people seem to dislike the tail lights, which are, in my humble opinion, a perfect accent to match the widely positioned exhaust, and pay homage to the original 60's Zagato rear end (even though that was a coupe'). I also read from motorhead that this car looks like it is out of the sixties? OF COURSE IT DOES. This car is meant to make the Volante look more classic, like the 60's Zagato. I really like the wheel housing bubbles, they have a very ""old school"" feel to them. Also, I am a huge fan of the decklid immediately behind the seats. It has a lovely hesitation before the seats that makes the profile very eligant. On top of all that, we have to realize that this car is meant to appeal to americans (I am one) and that means that the classic elements of the car are very 50's-60's Cadillac-esque, (someone mentioned it looking like one) which is a very extravagant look. I have heard a little too much Aston-bashing lately, it seems like people are not looking at the car for what it is meant to be: A modern interpretation of a classic design that can perform and function as a luxury car. In Short, I Like It."

"I thruthfully know very little of cars; I'm not ashamed to admit it.However, while 'surfing the net' I came across the picture of the DB AR1 and was in awe! I do not know the past history of the other Aston Martins, but I glanced at their photos, and I must say this car has the more laid back yet sophisticated look and feel to it.Like I said I know nothing of cars, but I know this one is a keeper above the rest. Now excuse me, I have to go realize that I could never afford such a car:) Have a nice day!=== ""><"

Aston Martin uniqueness always turns heads, but this DB AR1 has an ugly looking back, they should do something about the tail lights..

The Zagato coupe is a lithe, lovely thing, in my eyes, open motuhed guppy grille, maybe, but you can forgive it's flaws. But the AR1 loses one of the main things that made the Zagato distinctive in my eyes: the double bubble roof. Aston may be hitting homers with the Vantage concept, but this is a complete strike out.

"The DBAR1 lacks the proportion found in the previous Zagato Coupe. The back of the roadster wouldn't be out of place on a late 60's Cadillac convertible - because it slopes from behind the driver, rather than all the way from the windshield header, the rear of the car looks overly long. And yes - there's some Karman Ghia in that side view as well - is that the heritage Aston is shooting for? The large grille, while quite striking (and which somehow looked more balanced on the coupe), appears to have been tacked on to the car - in fact it is easy to look ""beneath"" the Zagato body and find the original DB7! Same performance as a DB7 GT, but $70,000 more for that exclusive bodywork? A collector will bite, but I doubt any well-heeled ""car guys"" will."

I hate to, once again, contradict everyone but this is a gorgeous car. This is the kind of car British car guys put up with even if the quality and reliability was low just to be seen enveloped in it beautiful sheetmetal driving down the street. I think the rear lights are very classic, so is the grille and side flanks. It has a touch of a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia Spyder from the side, no? Either way this is a very nice exotic!

For once, I can safely say that I agree with motorhead. This car is real ugly. The Zagato design, the original one, wasn't so bad. I liked the way the rear pillars swung upward, like in the Enzo, and the trademark double-bubble roof. The car looked ok, not in the typical elegant Aston fashion. The part that bothered me the most is, as motorhead says, the oversized grille. It's ugly. And this car takes away the curvaceous pillar and roof, but keeps the oversized grille. Ugly.

look at all the crap astons coming out of the zagato factory. Number one they have grilles twice the size of rollers. Number two they look as if they were made in the sixties and number three those rear lights remind me of something straight of a traffic light. Some stupid people may actually get confused with the traffic lights or the tail lights of the aston. The rear overhand is too long for my taste and looks like a cadillac limosuine from certain angles. And that roof spoils everything. The DB7 zagato was nice but not that nice and this is ugly but not that ugly so there is some hope for you die hard aston fans too. Aston is trying their best to make this a production model but let me wrn you all. If you all buy this you all are going to get a lot of stares from the back because they might thnik this is actually an abnormal traffic light moving!
