 impala is better

I am 18 and I own and drive a 2004 impala LS it has 440,000km on it and it still runs great, I am disappointed that its not rear wheel drive but its a well built car and the series 2 3.8 v6 is a very responsive engine, I have taken out the muffler and at my buddies shop we put custom dual exhaust on it with 2 3/4 inch tips, i have a trailer hitch on it and it hauls a small trailer with a sled really well, and the room inside the car is awesome and the trunk is huge, I love the heated leather seats and the sunroof and it looks great in black with tinted windows, the wood trim is cheap plastic but it still looks great to me, I would rather have an impala a real american built car then a tiny little civic with a 4 banger in it and no torque at all, everyone has to keep in mind to that the 3.8 v6 goes back to the 60s its a buick engine, its found in mid 90s base camaros with a turbo on it, and without a turbo, the 3800 series v6 is a classic american motor.
 Could go either way...

"Let me start by saying that I own a 95 Impala SS. Everywhere I go, I get compliments on it. It's an incredibly powerful, roomy, and all around incredible car. I won't knock the newer 2000 style Impala ""SS"", but I will state some facts and leave decisions up to you. Yes, the newer Impala is lighter, and better on gas. However, it is also smaller, slower, front wheel drive (worse handling and much less fun), and in my opinion, not as mean looking (as any car with the SS badge should be) as the 94-96 Impala Super Sport. Again, I think that the Impala is a fine car. I just don't believe that it should share a name with a car that has always been known for being huge, but also being able to outrun anything on the road."
The Impala is a really nice car for it's class.

"I've been looking over the specs of the Impala on the Chevy site and it's a great car for it's class. When you consider that this is basically going head-to-head with the Ford Taurus, 240hp is almost overkill. The base Impala is 180hp, the Taurus SE is 155hp. As far as power goes, the Impala is much better than it's main competitor. Chevy and Ford are competitors, what matters to either one is being better than the other. Right now, Chevy is beating Ford. My dad owns a '99 Ford Taurus, he loves it. In a couple years he'll be getting another car, probably a Taurus. As of today, I'm trying to get him to lean towards the Impala. As for looks, I think it looks better than the newer Fords. The '99 Taurus is still better, though ;-)."

"for the guy who thinks people should give the impala ss a chance...ummm this thing will get smoked by a new honda accord. is that what the ss label is becoming, just a way to make people think its the same goodness it was in the 60's. how can u ask me to take this car as an ""ss"" model seriously when it only has 240 horse, and WOW guys, you mean i get a spoiler too, so it has to be GOOD...RIGHT! NO..hell no. give me a break, this car is weak, its not what it used to be. so i ask you to wake up and smell the coffee...and im so happy that you look so good in it, because if you ever try to drag anybody in this car, youll be going slow enough so everybody can see you, but hey you look good tho....right!?!?!"

Rear wheel drive will always be the truest most performance oriented setup for a race car or sports car. The new Camaro when it comes out in 2005? will be RWD I'm sure, as it should be. On the other hand the Impala SS is a modern interprentation of a family sedan and so the supercharged SS is in my opinion a great product! Oh, did I mention that I drive a 1968 Camaro 350, so I know about old-school muscle.
 "An LS with 17"" wheels"

"I've been a bowtie lover ever since I bought my first new Camaro back in '67. I now have a 2001 Monte Carlo SS and a 2002 Impala LS in my garage. While I have to face the reality of FWD platforms in Chevy's lineup, I'm disappointed that the new Impala SS is not visually and optionally unique. Maybe I'm being old-school, but an SS badge once meant that the car had features/options not available on lesser models. When I put a set of 17"" wheels on my black LS, there won't be a lot of difference. I've got the spoiler, leather buckets, floor shift, and I've driven the supercharged 3800 and there is just not enough difference in the 40 horses. So, while I initially got excited at the prospect of a new Impala SS, I'm just going to put some 17's on my LS until I settle for a Maurader."

Cmon! to all you people saying the new impala ss sucks and it doesnt compare, listen up. you dont like the way the new impala looks. You want it to look like the old one, well, it cant. because the old impala looks like a whale and its old fashioned. You gotta give chevy a break. They cant soupe up the new impala to 400 horsepower until they are sure impala ss is what people want. its a smart move on chevy. Give it some time, impala is gonna get faster because people will demand it and it looks good. Old grandmas are not the only ones driving it either. Im a 21 year old student and I look damn good in my impala. The tail lights look good, the spoiler looks good, the freakin hood looks good. it all looks beautiful.

"Many of the supposedly ""die hard"" Chevy fans believe that the RWD V-8 boats of the past are the way cars should be built. With rising gas prices and a down economy, Chevrolet has come out with a well built American made sports sedan. It doesnt boast the antique style RWD V-8 combo, but the car does have promising performance. The smaller lighter weight body takes only a v-6 to have significant power and great acceleration. . . . .and yes, with the proper custom exaust rig it can easily have ""that sound."" Don't put down a great car simply because it takes the SS class to a different view point. The current base and LS Impalas are great cars and for sure the SS will be one of the few that will carry the heartbeat of the country into the next millenium."

I'm only 18 years old and when I first saw a 94-96 impala ss, i was like i have to have that car when i get my license. So when i turned 16 i got a 1996 black impala ss, and i love it all the power and the room, plus all the attention you get. But this new impala ss, is an ss ripe off, every time i see a 2000 or newer model it makes me sick.Nobody wants a sorry v-6 in an impala ss. GM needs to bring back the v-8 models of the ss, then they will really be rich. My ss can smoke the new impala going backwards. some of my friends think they fast cause they have the 2000 model, i told them just cause its says impala doesn't mean nothin. So we raced and i had about 8 car lengths on him. Gm doesn't even know how much profit they lost when they took it out of the line-up. Now all i see is old people riding in impalas, then they make crazy colors, stik to the orinigal black, maroon, and metallic green, i'm not gonna lie you could win a car show with a all-stock 94-96 impala ss, all you have to do is wash and wax it.

I am a true lover of the 95Impala SS, and was interisted when I heard about the 2004. But now that I have seen it it changes my whole way of thinking when it comes to Impala's and the Chevy company as a mater of fact. I didn't really care when I saw it was fwd, but it made me sick to see it was a V6 have you no shame Chevy. For someone like me who wants a big powerful car the old Impala SS was a god sent. So you should do one of two things one change the name on this peace of junk or remake it into a car worth having.

"Owner of a ""true"" Impala SS(1996). GM get your head out of your A$$ and read these coments you b|tch! Bring back the full size, v8 breathing, rear wheel driven Impala SS! This new 2004 WIMPala A$$ A$$ is a joke. GM, it may make economic sense to you to reuse this aged drive train platfrom from 1998, but I can see right through it. This car is no different from Regal GS, or the Grand Prix GTP. Build right the first time. Oops, I forgot. You (GM) already f'd it up. Do us all die hard Chevy fans and KILL that monstrosity NOW!!"

I am a true chevy fan, but if chevy wants to bring back the Impala SS. They need to do more than they are offering on the V-6. The new models do not even compare to the 94-96 versions. Keep it real GM... The last model made the 96 Impala SS comes with a V-8 w/260hp normal aspiration. Do something more than just 240hp. Thats why Ford is still kicking Chevy's ass with their SVT line. Have more creation about the young crowd like Ford has done... Times change GM and time for you to see it..

I am a true Impala SS fan. I love all the Impala's up to the 94-96 models. This crap that chevy has going now is truely heart breaking to me. I now have a 1984 Caprice Classic and I love it. Until Chevy decides to make a real Impala Super Sport, I guess me and ol Betsy will keep on rollin.
 This car is awesome!

"Come on Chevy. Just when I thought that this SS model line was looking good (Silverado SS, SSR, and the SS concept), you bring out this Impala ""SS"" on an outdated platform and a less than par vehicle. On top of that you only put 240 horses under the hood and drive it by the front wheels! Oh well, now the little Monte Carlo ""SS"" will have a little friend. Goodbye Chevy. Now where's that REAL muscle car...The Murcury Murauder? PS. What about the fun body kit on the car, at least the sweet Impala SS of the 1990's LOOKED like an SS."

"A V6 FWD Impala SS?!!! I don't think so. I think that GM should not bring back the Impala SS until they decide to build the Chevrolet SS concept car. I presently own a 95 Impala SS; it is a real SS in every sense of the word. IF GM were smart they would build the SS concept in several different trim levels, perhaps a family version with the inline 6 used in the trailblazer up through the SS for the performance minded. In the old days when this approach was used, Chevy was #1 in sales. GM needs to get back to some indiviuality in cars instead of the one size fits all approach of the Japanese where you see yourself coming an going down the road."

It's cool, but it doesn't inspire like the '94-'96 version. It has to be lowered a bit somehow. I've never quite gotten used to those tail lights-- Maybe if it had three somewhat smaller lights (like '60's Impy's), it might work. I hope they black out the grille and make the bowtie red on production models... How about stick?
 This Impala is oldfashioned

This Impala is as old fashioned as everything else done by Chevrolet and GM recently. They are not going back to their roots they just go in the wrong direction. Impala sucks.

I had large expectations when Chevy that they would 'super sporting' the Impala, but the end result has a lot to be desired. First off, all they really did was make this an even closer competetor to the Pontiac Grand Prix. The two cars share many of the same drive components, and now they share the same engine for around the same price. Chevrolet should have shoehorned the Oldsmobile Aurora's awesome V-8 and dropped it in. I've driven the '03 Impala, and while it's a decent car, the SS version will really need some suspension work (for improved handling and body control), much tighter steering (not the loose steering found in all the current GM cars), more comfortable seats (not the park benches in the current Impala) and a much more distinguishable exterior. Except for the monochromatic black and SS logos, the Impala and Impala SS are really no different. Let's see what GM and Chevrolet can do in the next couple months before they release the final production. This car should revitalize Chevrolet.

I'm glad they brougt back the SS Impala but I'm dissapointed it's front wheel drive. I hope the rumors of the Monte AND Impala going to RWD are true!

Once again, Chevy has digraced its heritage and product line by badging the new Impala (A model that already betrayed its roots by being a bland, FWD sedan) an SS model. sure, 240 hp can offer some kick, but I'm sure it's no better than the supercharged Buick Regals and Pontiac Grand Prix's that share the same engine. I thought Chevy was going to inject dome real life and meaning into the 'SS' monkier with its new line of hot vehicles and the SS concept. However, like the terrible Monte Carlo SS, this is nothing to get wild about, and is a shame to all who revered the SS Camaros, Impalas, and Novas of yore. Note: The Impala is NOT rear wheel drive, as the specs above claim!

I think it's great that Chevy brought back this performance icon. But I find it dissapointing that they put a V-6 in it. It's the same supercharged engine that's in the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP and Bonneville SSEi. Why couldn't they use the 350 from the Corvette again or maybe the leftover Camaro engines.
 I can not believe this!
