"I don't care how many cars Holden can sell; that's their problem. I'm not making money from it, so why should I care? All I care about its the fact I'm buying a good car at a good price, which is not quite the way I see a Holden Monaro. It has too much Flintstones technology, combined with various unresolved problems launched with the VT (i.e power-steering, crumby gear-boxes, un-sophisticated suspension setup, oil-consumption problems). On top of this, they ask anything up to $96 000 for these things, so no, it ain't good value for money. The one and only thing I consider it good for is as a show-pony. ""Check out those curves"". Good chick magnet ;)"

who are you trying to kid? ask any motoring journalist which is the worst built australian car and the commodore creeps to mind. the ford falcon is considered by every motoring journalist in australia to be probably the best value for money car in the world. what makes you so surprised, that a subsidiary of the worlds largest car manufacturer can compete with ford and toyota? holden make 1 car which they base 5 other platforms off at the moment and import everything else. theres no surprise there that they can compete.

I think that its really great that Holden can not only survive but outsell international brands like Toyota and Ford. Yes, I know Holden would be nowhere without GM, but look at it this way you small small Ford-heads, GM is set up so that the companies that bring in the sales get the money. Now, by sales i mean total number, not proportion to population. So, even though it could be argued that Opel can better spend money than Pontiac, the American brands bring in the sales, they get the cash. After all this, Holden has managed to make one of the best cars in the world at a high build quality with money it makes itself. Beat that Ford Australia.
 kicked arse?

"What is the definition of kicked arse? ""R34 kicked the HSV GTS in the arse when wheels magazine tested them"". It (R34)had lower power, less torque, and posted a slower top speed. It was quicker through 400mt and to 100kmh. It had 15psi boost, a few mods, 4wd as opposed to two and cost nearly $30000 more. A supercharger or turbo on the GTS would cost around $10000 and close things up a little."

regarding 4dsrule comment, I have heard that they are not going to produce the HRT monaro. Apparently their were to few orders. Shame, as it looked awsome...

maybe u should have a look 4dsrule at what u just said: u compared a 240kw car with a 370kw version of itself and a possible 300kw car yet released. the R34 kicked the HSV GTS in the arse when wheels magazine tested them, what hope has the CV8-R got against the R35?

First off the Subaru Forester is not a Chevy in North America, second if you didn't notice the second comment says the Forester is sold as a Chevy in some ASIAN countries.

"this is a really sweet car. i would rather have this sitting in my garage than a rebaged version of it called the ""pontiac GTO"". i wish they would sell it in the US."

Ok, i'll start from the beggining. The Subaru forester is only sold as the chev forester in some asia countries. Also the Monaro is definetly not a copy of the GTO/GTS, because the monaro was first realeased in 1968 and they stopped production in 1977. They only brought it back in 2001 to add a new model to the holden range as their to spec model. The new monaro, CV8, CV6 or R-spec will go head-to-head with the Nissan 350Z Track Spec, the Chrysler Crossfire, the Mazda RX8, and the new Nissan R35 GTR. And thats not to mention the CSV Mondo GT Spec-R 370. But lets leave the CSV to HSV's big Mutha, the HSV HRT 427

"Your wrong about the Suburu Forester being a Chevy in the U.S. I live in the U.S. and the Suburu Forester is a Suburu Forester. Second... if the GM decides to bring back the Camaro/Firebird cars (last known as the F-bodies), it wont be on this platform. And since Ford has the only pony car left now, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw a revival of those cars in the not too distant future; if only in name. Lets just hope they don't totally screw it up like they did the current Impala. The way I see it, when u bring back a classic nameplate that had a signifigance to it in the past... you have a responsibilty to remain true to its roots. If you ask me, the current GTO is pretty much a let down there. Partly due to the price tag."
"A comment from ""anyone"" in Australia.."

The comments of the previous writer are hereby acknowledged. Since you have made the broad generalisation that 'anyone in Australia knows that Holden are in trouble with their Monaro', I would like to put the record straight by reporting that this is just NOT the case. I live in Australia and I think it's great that the Australian motor industry, which has for too long been protected from overseas competition, is beginning to take on the world market. It's good to see too that GM USA is getting right behind Holden in their efforts and that the Monaro is such a competent vehicle - be it in Pontiac GTO or Holden Monaro guise.
 Scoop 2004 Pontiac GTO - R

As anyone in Aussie or NZ knows, holden are having troubles selling the Manaro. Their answer was to (sort of) copy the HSV GTS/GTO, to jazz up the car. General Motors, now being run by Lutz is sheering round the GM's range. The Manaro was to be sold in America as the Pontiac GTO, and in the middle east as the Chevy Camino SS. The Sabaru Forester is sold as a Chev in the states. The top of the range Holden Commadore Ute may be also sold in the states as the El Camino. Look at the Astra -Holden Astra/ Opel(Valkshal) Astra -the only difference is the badging. So why not bring this car out as the 2004 Pontiac GTO - R, when you have problems selling the new Pontiac, or what about the Firebird??
