Needs A Redesign Before It Hits The Market |
Esperante 10-31-2005 |
This latest Lincoln is a bulgy, odd angled car from almost any angle. Why? Both the sides and the front end are crudely slapped on in what seems a last minute ditch to get the car on the road. The rear end is well executed, with a clean bottom vent and exhaust portals, and the taillamps are also a pleasureably surprise. But the headlamps on this car just look bubbly and over sized, and from some angles this causes the car to look wider at the front than at the rear. The front vent is also what appears to be cheaply made plastic, and it makes the car look like a humpback whale from the first picture. At least they pulled off the interior before designing the rest of the car with haste. But the Fusion looks promising, and let's at least hope that Ford is able to build a strong all around car. At least they did the photo shoot in Chicago. |
Poor Lincoln designers |

At a young age of 19 my first Lincoln was a perfect used 1961. Then I had two Mark IIIs to go to college in. By the time I was out of school I bought a 3 year old Mark VII, and loved every one of them. The design of all of these cars was unmistakable and the quality was on a par with my friends BMWs. Today, I now have drive my second Q 45 because sadly, Lincolns of today no longer turn my head, instead they turn my stomack. By the looks of the Mark IX and Mark X concept cars, the designers really understand what it would take to restore the name of Lincoln to the minds of American buyers. Sadly the others at lincoln (bean and number counters) don't get it. The Zepher looks like a swollen Accord with SUV grille - UGLY!! Hallmarks for Lincoln are in the memories of all Americans now old enough to buy new ones - the Mark II, the suicide doors 61-69, the Mark III and even up to the Mark V, all look like a Lincoln should! The Mark VII even held onto a few cues and was an amazing performer - Bravo! However, the current Town Car is as ugly as the last Hudson bathtub cars of the 50's and even looks like one, and has no family resemblence to a Lincoln. The Zepher may be the greatest handeling machine made, but God is it ugly. Until Lincolns that looks like the Mark IX, X or Continental Concept cars are released to the public I will continue to drive an Infiniti. |
