Comparison 2 from the Wheels Europe v Japan tests.

Both are premium "warm" front drive hatches, both about the same size. Both about the same price.
Mazda3 SP23 - 2.3 litres, 115kW@6500 rpm, 5-speed manual. A$29,120 (UK not avail with the 2.3 engine. 2.0 Mazda3 Sport is closest and costs 15,500 pounds).
VW Golf 2.0 FSi Sportline - 2.0 litre, 110kW@6000 rpm, 6-speed manual. A$32,990 (UK 18,185 for the 2.0 FSi GT).

The price and the 2.3 litre engine is more attractive to me... so the Mazda 3 i guess...

SP23 for me. I rather the styling and its cheaper here, just wish it had a 6 speed
