    Out of curiosity....

How would one go about getting sponsors for racing? I now own a 1986 Honda CRX to be used for racing and need some myself, but I figured anybody getting into racing could use this advice as well.

"The day the New York Times defines what Country Music is will be the day I shave my legs with a butter knife." - John Rich, of the country band Big and Rich

I'll be 15 on Feb. 18th, so buy me a drink! (Hint: Don't look at it as the decimal number. <smirks>)

You need to have a really nice/fast car and then ask them if they'd like to put large vinyl decals on your car for money. They'll want to know where you plan on racing/showing, so know that beforehand. If it's a stripped out race car, don't go to Alpine or Sony for a car audio sponsorship. Try looking for tuner shops in your area too- they're more likely to sponsor a local car than a big corporation who could sponsor a big-name professional team.

What kind of racing are you going to be doing, just out of my own nosiness?

SCCA Solo, at first, keeping the car street legal for a while. I'll continue to build the car up into a full-race car as I continue. I might build it up into a SCCA GT-class car, I might get another car before that happens, though. One with larger after market support and such.

I good way to start might be too go to a shop when you want work done and talk to them about advertising on your car for discounted parts or work done to your car.

If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

Make some up for me and I'll put them on my car

Talk to local shops if you get parts from them about the sponsorships. Sometimes they do parts for the vinyl, depends on the deal you make.

Well, decals aren't a problem as my father does stuff like this to race cars quite often. I can basically get them made for free. It also looks like that Z is a GT2 car.
