    Confusion over Fastest Car

All right so in February the Koenigsegg CCR broke the McLaren F1's standing record for fastest production car right?

But in the June 2005 issue of European Car, it says (on page 9) that on December 12th that the German tuner 9ff drove its 9f-V400 to a top speed of 242.5mph, beating the McLaren's record and therefore making it the worlds fastest production car (there are 20 of these car made) So I guess my question is why are they reporting this a) so late and b) at all if in February the Koenigsegg beat the Mclaren anyway?

Its a tuner car, so it doesn't count.

I have read in max power that there is a Toyota supra in japan that did 249.8 on the salst flats in america. Max power were there when they did this test also.

The CCR was faster than the 9ff anyway wasn't it?

The 9ff is not really a respectable attempt at the record though - the F1 and CCR were from scratch cars, the 9ff just bolts turbos onto a 911, then removes/tapes up all the items causing drag untill the car goes marginally faster than the F1.

Big deal. I'll go strap a jet engine to a 1989 Ford Fiesta and that will be an equally legitimate claim? I think not.
    Thanks for all the fish

The're really two diffrent records. One is production, now set by the CCR, the other modified, held by the 9ff.

So does that mean that the production record is faster than the modified record? How about if I bought a CCR and put some new wiper blades on it? Wouldn't that be the fastest modified car?

I thought the Dauer 962 LM was the worlds fastest production car, how come it isn't registered as it. It's top speed is 251mph, thats higher than both the CCR and the F1.

It is the fastest, but unfortunately people let beaurocracy get in the way over fickle little details.

At the moment, the fastest tested 3 are:

    1. Dauer 962LM - 405km/h (404.6 to be exact)
    2. McLaren F1 - 391km/h
    3. Koenigsegg CCR - 388km/h

    I agree.

Its a shame that the car rarely got the respect it deserved.

Technically, the Dauer is #1, and there is proof the F1 is faster than the CCR.
