Motor Magazine May 2005: All Aussie Shootout

Just picked up the May 2005 issue of Motor and flicked through the All Aussie Shootout. It was an awesome read. The test consisted of dyno-testing, acceleration sprints, Eastern Creek lap times, and a 2000km road trip. Not surprisingly, the HSV Clubsport won the contest. Unfortunately, FPV were still working on a clutch fix for the F6 Typhoon/Tornado, so they missed out. Here are some raw numbers from the test:

the top-spec ones (400hp etc) are a bit of a show pony, most buyers consider them as two seat coupes with a tray but yeah they go hard

And he would know that how?

Utility is a Very Australian way of describing these types of vehicles.

To answer the question; Their not terrible ownership prospects, but they are lower than your average Truck.

i was just letting him know

also the ford utes unfortunately still uses leaf-axles
which is ok for the tradies version but when you have a 5.4 litre v8 infront its not going to help the acceleration or handling
lets hope that they change this in the mkIII

The power @ the Wheels for the FPV's was all over the place

The biggest thing to shock me was the SS did the fastest lap time and not the coupe4.

The Maloo utes are good but as Clutch_Monkey said they are more show with big boot But if you want to carry no more then 600kg in the rear which most dont go past that anyway then there the cheapest way to get into a LS2.

Eastern creek isnt really suited to 4wd,winton mallala etc would be a different story for the coupe 4,also cant believe the ss is quicker than the r8,know which one I would buy,the ss with some engine and suspension mods would absolutely spank the r8

Isnt this old news already? The SS was quicker cause the R8 had its shitty 19" tyres that are succeptible to having the sidewalls rollover through cornering. Get the new TDS Clubby and an F6 in there, around a tight track as charged suggested and it would be a completely different story

well i didn't know (maybe because i haven't been bothered to read the posts).
    19's look way cooler though.

By the way, what is a TDS Clubsport?
It's not how fast you go, it's how much fun you have getting there

Anyone who buys a car now for around 30,00 pounds and doesn't buy one of these is either mad, or boring.

In reality, with how Motor issue their mags, the story is only a month old, but a month is a long time around here

1 week is a long time for me
I would love to see a race on a real small tight track head to head Coupe4 V F6.
Drool time. Coupe4's grip and bite in and out of corners and the F6's massive torque ripping them corners going out and flying down the straight.

If you made it too tight though, the torque would work against the F6 as would the weight of the Coupe4, although its only maybe 20kg heavier than an F6 and has a lower CoG
