What was all the pot and needles talk, I didn't get it? funny?
I was just kidding around. You're right, but from my assumption, it's supercharged. I looked in the engine bay for 5 secs or so, and that was with the plastic cover over the block.

However, there is a definate 'whizzing' under acceleration that should be sourced from a supercharger belt. I'll take pics later.

...actually, for the past few months ive been driving a '98 Buick LeSabre (pretty much the same car, w/o the supercharger) that my parents gave to me out of pity after i broke the E30 and then the Beetle...

only thing about those cars ive noticed is that on some the power-steering pump gets really loud...that might be the noise you heard...probably not

...oh yeah, a fun thing to do with the supercharged engine is dissconnect the intake airbox...its quite loud...

but yeah the 3800 is a good motor...my friend has a '03 Impala with an aftermarket turbocharger kit...not sure how much boost he runs...but he beats C5s at the drag strip easily

Definitely a good engine. My mechanic loves them and that's a very good endorsement. He told be of early series Is that he'd serviced with more than 200,000 miles, and that's without much pampering.

I may get my dads old car for free if I pass my test, its a Suzuki Swift 998cc THREE cylinder, no power anything, air-con thats on its last legs, a rotting exhaust manifold (no idea why). I don't want that.

Wicked, I absolutely love shitbox beaters They've got to be some of the most entertaining cars to thrash, simply because you're laughing the whole time at how awful they are. Also good because you're usually not to concerned if anything does end up breaking (the first thing to go is usually the handbrake)

...because he'll only get about $1000 for it, if he's lucky, and buying a new car when you have a used one that works just fine is really, REALLY stupid. Especially if you got it for free.

Congrats, Rockafella, getting an old crap box for nothing is the stuff of dreams; you can trash it to your hearts content until it dies.
