Minardi in 2006: Squadra Torro Rosso

The austrian newspaper the Salzburger Nachrichten, reports today that Minirdi is going to Squadra Torro Rosso (italian for Team Red Bull) starting from season 2006. And that their drivers will be the italian Vitantionio Liuzzi and the American Scott Speed.

Is there anybody to confirm this story?

    ITV-F1.com report

Red Bull has announced that its second team will be known as ‘Squadra Toro Rosso’ in 2006.

The energy drinks company takes over the private Minardi team on November 1 and the new name – Italian for ‘Team Red Bull’ – is intended as a rebranding exercise while also paying homage to Minardi’s heritage.

Red Bull has also confirmed that its driver line-up across both its teams will comprise RBR’s existing drivers David Coulthard, Christian Klien and Vitantonio Liuzzi as well as GP2 drivers Scott Speed and Neel Jani.

It has not revealed to which team each of those drivers will be assigned, although it is certain that Coulthard will continue to lead the ‘A’ team and likely that he will be partnered by Klien.

Liuzzi and Speed are expected to team up at Toro Rosso with Jani becoming the third driver for either squad.

The other missing piece in the jigsaw is the identity of Toro Rosso’s team boss. Paddock speculation suggests that the most likely replacement for Paul Stoddart is Austrian Franz Tost, currently logistics manager for BMW.

Yeah, it's been a while since we last saw Mario Andretti and Michael Andretti.

I'm also really excited to be seeing another F1 American driver!

Michael Andretti sucked, he won 1 of the 5 races he did in F1, then he left

That's not too bad considering people like Jenson Button have raced 100 w/out ever achieving a win.

Andretti only finished on the podium once and then went back to the States.

And so could: Albers, Kartiekeyan (sp?), Sato (prob. not), Webber, Schumachers (controversial win for Mike), Massa, etc etc etc.

He didn't win a race. He got 1 podium and that was it, he was really dissapointing. His driving style was always much more suited to the American Style of Racing.

I also agree that Jenson Button could have won this year, and last year! Things never quite work out. Monaco 04 he was just behind Trulli and CHina 04 he was only 1 tenth behind Rubens Barrichello. If Honda build a good car for '06 then he is more than capable of a race win, if not the whole championship!

Squadra Torro Rosso already looking to make headlines.....

The fledgling STR team look set to make the first major headlines of the preseason testing programmes. They are expected to give young British driver Katherine Legge a test behind the wheel of an F1 car in November. If it happens she'll be the first woman to drive an F1 car since 1991.

    Full story here: http://www.planet-f1.com/news/story_21347.shtml

Will she make the grade I wonder? Or is it just a crude marketing ploy by STR? Will she make a similar impact to Danica Patrick in IRL?

There are many question marks about this plan from STR. There is only one thing us super-serious, intellectual motorsport enthusiasts can say about her credentials with absolute certainty..........she's not quite as hot as Danica Patrick!

Well, in the last ever three day test for the Minardi F1 team Katherine Legge got her debut behind the wheel of an F1 car, becoming the first woman to drive an F1 car in 14 years. But it wasn't without its dramas!

In her very first session yesterday she binned the car into a concrete wall at a damp Vallelunga circuit on just her second full lap at the wheel!

It got better today though as she drove 27 problem free laps setting one of the fastest times of the week (some 3.48 secs faster than Minardi's regular tester Chanoch Nissany, though that doesn't necessarily count for much!).
