MIAMI -- A woman and four teens were injured Wednesday night in a multi-vehicle accident that may have been caused by street racing, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Around 10:45 p.m., a Lexus and Volkswagen collided into slower traffic, tipping a sport utility vehicle onto its side and sending a Honda crashing into the backyard of a home off Southwest 8th Street near 102nd Avenue, FHP troopers said.

A woman trapped inside the Honda was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center, where she is listed in serious but stable condition.

Four teenagers from Our Lady of Lourdes Academy who were riding in the SUV were also taken to area hospitals to be treated for minor injuries.

Daniel Quintana, 22, and Flavio Lop, 18, have been charged with aggressive and careless driving. Troopers said they were driving their vehicles at a high rate of speed and caused the crash.

Two young men were killed in an apparent street drag racing accident in St Kilda overnight.

The accident occurred about 1.05am when a Nissan Skyline hit a power pole while travelling west along Dandenong Road.

A back-seat passenger in the Skyline died at the scene while another back-seat passenger in his late teens was taken to The Alfred Hospital but also died. The victims were 18-year-old William Curtain and 19-year-old David Nguyen, both of Essendon.

The Skyline was travelling side-by-side with a silver Honda at the time of the accident. The driver of the Honda stopped at the scene to assist police with their inquires.

Sergeant Ron Perrett of the Major Collision Investigation Unit said the cause of the accident was still to be confirmed but said the stretch of Dandenong Road where it occurred passes through a cutting under St Kilda Junction and "certainly has a history of cars using this section of road for racing".
