What was the best domestic engine ever built?

Tough question huh? There have been so many really impressive and historic engines. Likewise there have been many modern engines that are really worthy of note as well.

Discuss and state why you think your pick is the best ever built.

If I missed a revolutionary or great motor in my poll, name it in your post.

Hard question, as theres been alot of high power engines, that are also high displacement, so thats kindof redundant for making it a good engine. Ive always liked the 289-302-351cu.in. Fords though, they infact made them here in Geelong i think it was, between 72-82.

The LS2 and LS7 are probably the best overall. Keep in mind that this is disregarding any "best of their time" engines.

These two are the best most importantly because of their power and efficiency. Nothing in engineering is more valuable than a combination of these two factors.

Although the Mopar 440 is my personal favorite, I would have to go with the 426-Hemi. As Bobby Isaacs once said, "The Hemi turns on where the others shut off."
Also, it's the engine the powered the '69 Charger Daytona to a top speed of over 180 mph straight from the factory.

The chevy small block engine has made going fast cheap its been a great crat engine and parts are everywhere. This of course tied with the ford 302 where woldnt we be with the Ford 302? It powered cars for over 20 years and still is a great engine
