E90 or E60, I think.
The 3-Series is E90, the E60 is the 5-series.

Unless you're talking to a real BMW aficionado best to just use series and decade. ie 5 series from early '90s, is a better descriptor for most ppl than E34. Still, it better to be precise:

Odd. As of next year, they move to "F-" numbers. Eg. F10 is the next 5 series, after the E60.
