it was the old 253 V8, i think with special carbs, but not that much different to the normal one, with a 4-speed transaxle. Its navigation system was based on magnetic strips in the road and it lit little arrows on the dash

Pssh, Navi is so pointless. My Fox has it; It's sitting in the glovebox right now.
    It's called a "map".

Anyways, I'm going to have to second the Alfa 8c Competition, and mention the Audi Avus concept.

Would have been nice if Holden got there way and made the 253 into there new V6.
Guess back then that kind of stuff would have been like if we had a auto pilot mode now in cars

No it isn't. It's pointless for highways and other big roads but it's VERY usefull in cities.

yeah, it woulda been awesome, it would've pushed the entire engine line-up up a few steps, much more models with the 350 Chev. Pity.

I still wish they made the 5LT OHC V8
It's a shame i think Holden could build a supercar more Grand Tourer if they had the money to waste.
GM does it all the time waste money when they dont have any

    Dymaxion

The 1933 Dymaxion Car was intended to fly, jump-jet style, when suitable alloys and engines became available. Meantime, it did pretty well on the ground: It got about 30 miles per gallon, and could smoothly hurtle eleven passengers at 120 miles per hour--far better performance than a 1996 minivan.

Though not much heavier that a VW Beetle, the Dymaxion was nearly 20 feet long. That was too big for urban traffic, despite extraordinary maneuverability--it could U-turn in its own length. The adroit rear-wheel steering also proved counterintuitively tricky, especially in a crosswind. A fatal crash, wrongly blamed on the steering instead of the other car involved, was also fatal to investors, and the project failed.

Ten years later, Buckminster Fuller put what he'd learned to work in a much handier five-seater with a tiny engine at each wheel. This time, the front wheels steered, but all three could be steered for tight city turns and crabbing sideways into parking spaces. High speed stability was enhanced by extending the rear wheel on a boom to lengthen the wheelbase.

^^ intruiging. Imho not as sexy as the '65-on factory effort

Can't wait any longer for someone to nominate as a 'could have been' these fantastic Rovers, the P6BS and P9. Mid-engined alloy V8 so an MR2 with balls. Because its such a great website I won't 'borrow' a pic, so check it out yourself
