    Recommendations on (older) rock music.

I relize I like older rock songs, but I do not know who, or where to look. What are some recommendated groups, then I will listen to previews online.

    Newer rock to I guess.

ok..... What are some songs and bands you like? And by older, how old do you mean... like 60s, 70s or 80s old?

Well first of all start with the classics:
    The Beatles
    The Rolling Stones
    Led Zeppelin
    Pink Floyd
    The Animals
    Creedence Clearwater Revival
    The Who
    Deep Purple
    Dire Straits
    Neil Young
    Bob Dylan
    Queen
    Lynyrd Skynyrd
    The Kinks
    The Doors

Then move on to bands like:
    The Smiths
    The Stone Roses
    XTC
    The Police
    R.E.M.
    Pixies
    Primal Scream
    David Bowie
    The Cure
    Radiohead
    Oasis
    Gang of Four

If you like the more harder rock/metal then try:

    Metallica
    AC/DC
    Guns 'N Roses
    Van Halen
    Black Sabbath

Then if you want more modern music try some modern indie like:
    Bloc Party
    The Arcade Fire
    Belle & Sebastian
    Death Cab for Cutie

I'll leave it at that, but check out www.allmusic.com
    good site for beginners...

if you want recommendations for specific bands, dont hesitate to ask....

Well junaman pretty much summarized my entire list of reccomendations, so thanks for savin me some work. If you like 60s psychadelic/pop then venture further into bands such as, The Zombies, Beach Boys, Cream, The Turtles, Donovan, Badfinger and so on. There's also a lot of modern 60s/70s inspired indie rock that in my opinion is as good or better than its influences. Try the Apples in Stereo, Of Montreal, Belle and Sebastian, and my all time favourite Super Furry Animals. Oh and don't forget the Velvet Underground, one of the first and best indie/underground rock bands out there.

But seriously, get the album "Love Kraft" by the Super Furry Animals, it's a brilliant work of musical art.

i was waiting on a moment, but the moment never came. all the billion other moments, were just slipping all away. i must have been tripping, we're just slipping all away. just ego tripping.

some more :Small Faces, Procul Harum, Swinging Blue Jeans, Derek and the Dominos, Yardbirds, Searchers. and the list goes on. Somehow the Moody Blues also started as a rock band but were one of the first groups to introduce symphonic rock.

Free is a great band from the 70's led by Paul Rodger who IMHO has one of the best voices in rock. Very bluesey music

Look at the songs that are on the Almost Famous soundtrack, most are pretty good bands.
