Italian Cars at the Ace Café, London!

For the uninitiated, the Ace is where all the mods and the rockers used to meet in the 1950s and 60s, up on the outskirts of London, for wild parties and racing on the North Circular London bypass road.

Still a very popular haunt for bikers, it also has become home for all motorists of a nostalgic persuasion, and has both classic car and bike days. We went to the Italian Car Day on Saturday. Good fun.

We arrived late and the weather was crap, so not much interesting - but the Fiat 500 club turned out in half-decent numbers. Was lovely to meet everyone. Take a look at club chaiman, Carl's 500 attached. His trailer is half of another (previously rotten) 500 he chopped especially after stripping for spares. (Sadly some are beyond repair, and this is a good, innovative use of what would otherwise have been scrap metal! )

    Cheers,

    G

Ps - ours isn't in the picture cos we were parked behind (with a gorgeous original Abarth - which had sadly already left before we braved the weather to take photos... )

I've heard and read a lot about Ace Café meetings. I remember reading the issue of Classic Cars, some years ago, where they came up with the idea of starting the meetings. It soon became a success.

I shall be going more often now. Top place. Good for a cheap lunch on the way to/from Wembley Ikea too! Had I realised exactly where it was, I would've frequented long ago!

Well worth a visit on a meet day, if the sun is shining.
