Well i dont really like american muscel cars but i would chose an mustang if i had to
-I live my life a quater mile att a time.
-It dose“t mater if you win by an inch or an mile, wining“s wining.
-It dosen“t mater if your car goes 0-60 in 5s if you can“t drive it to the max.
-I fell the need......the need for speed.
I've heard that the ZL1 was a 10 second car ... as soon as you put the drag slicks on it.Originally Posted by mechanixfetch
Different sites have slightly varying stories on how it was produced without specific consent of upper management, I've seen it said that it was known about but management turned a blind eye, that the cars were assembled after hours and the most likely story was that it was going to head the factory race team.
As the link I supplied states, 50 cars were ordered, supposedly all going to racers and not for street use, but when word spread among the dealers a total of 69 were made before going to the much cheaper and tamer (figure of speach) L72 (cast iron) engine.
I believe the headers were installed on the engine, there would be no mistaking this as a race car, the cost of the car itself carried a $4100 premium for the engine package, $7300 in 1969 was a lot for a car, especially when across the road at the Chrysler dealership you could get a serious street/race car in the $4500 Hemi Dart. Serious as in they pulled all the stops and created a devastating car that the prospective owner had to sign a disclaimer for. A really great article on this car HERE.
I sometimes feel that I was born 20 yrs too late ... not that it would matter, as I'd still be broke.

I knew the car existed, I remembered it was 69 cars (69 cars in 1969) and I remembered it was a 10 second (¼ mile) beast that had no cause to fear any of the street hemi cars (hemi Dart is not a street hemi car ... 600+ hp, approx 500 at the rear wheels with locomotive league torque and weighing in under 2200lbs).
I did have to research as to why there were only 69 cars made when I knew there were over a 1000 COPO camaros built (the balance were cast iron 427's), this led to the discovery of 2 different COPO order #'s and a link with great pics and even more info.
Same here, but in my case it's tuned Imps, Escort Mexicos, Chevette 2300HSs and A110s and the ubiquitous MiniOriginally Posted by NoOne
Cheap(ish) cars in their days and rally-prepped ones with MSA papers are holding crazy prices today

Id take a COPO or Yenko camaro,
but really i'd want (as u'd know if u read a number of my post) The COPO all aluminum 427 lz1 (pretty much the same settup as the camaro)..........CORVETTE, sry but the 67 is just too beutiful

Between the Camaro and the Mustang, I perfer the Camaro, especially a '69 Camaro ZL1. As far as any pony car, definitely a Hemi Cuda is my favorite.

Personally I would Take the mustang...... I kinda already have 3 Camaros...... Not to mention a partial ownership of 6 1970 chevelles that my best friends Dad owns. (showing off)
MUSTANG- a great old sports car, brilliant handling, quick acceleration, nice models and plenty of power.(little on the heavy side)
The new 2004 mustang is a brilliant recreation of the old mustang, and is also a brilliant car.
Oy! Yikes.
Heavy? Well maybe compared to many Euro and Japanese cars of the time, but definitely not for North American musclecars:Originally Posted by speedyone

Mustangs performed well because they were lighter than their immediate competition, which is just as well because aside from the BOSS 302's 302 cid small block and the Shelby GT350's 289 cid small block, Ford engines were really poorly designed for real performance, having too large ports in the heads to breathe properly (in regards to port velocity not port volume), and not enough cam to compensate. Classic examples are the 351 Cleveland, 390,428 and 429, I left out mention of the 427 SOHC(also known as the cammer) as it was not really a passenger car engine, more of a race engine that found its way into more Galaxies than Ford would like to admit.
Your right about the cammer enguine...fairlane where popular with them too ....the majority became drag ledgend in thier own rights and where bought stripped out and even had fibreglass pannels and stuff...butnow that off subject.....
The mustangs where about a similar weight to our Falcons over here about 1400 kilos...the thing that bugs me the most about most yank cars is far too many are automotaic...so hard to find a stock manualone...damn lazy nation they are...
It's not that we're lazy, we just have so many stupid people in our country.

I would take a 1969 z/28 Camaro over any ford anyday, my dad use to have a 69 z/28 with a 383 stroker motor in it. It had 505 HP and like 590 ft pound torque. It was red with black stripes.
