    huh? i always thought f1 engines were capable of at least 150 more horsepower, or im not up to date and those are the power figures of the new V8´s?

    Youre probably still familiar with the V10's, which were 900-950hp

    Oh yes. It's all to do with sound pressure levels apparently. They can also analyse firing orders (with a 'super-stereo' mic), efficiency and revs.

    Oh and the cossie V8 revs to 20,100rpm in qually and 19,600rpm in the race - not quite at 21,000rpm yet.

    What they do is measure the revs the engines do which is the actual sound analysis part, then sub that into a generic formula to estimate power. Its the same sort of stuff where they predict race stints based on how long the fuel nozzle is connected in a pitstop. That all uses a generic fuel consumption figure
