Dont get a new car as you probably wont find anything on the market good enough anymore, unless you want to put alot of money into a standard LandCruiser (and i think you guys dont get any models with the solid front axle)Originally Posted by Ziostilon

They say it was pretty much engineered to defeat any obstacles that the US Army may need to defeat. Do you agree. If it is really that good is there actually any alternative to the Hummer H1/ Humvee.Originally Posted by GM Press Release

I think all new off roaders are too fat to be good. Specially the FJ Cruiser... what where they thinking?

However solid axles can hamper ground clearance. Whereas independent suspension allows the whole underbody to be covered with a giant skid plate which will protect the engine, transmission, transfer case, etc.Originally Posted by charged

You need to add low range to your list if you really want an effective off road vehicle.Originally Posted by Ziostilon
Go outback in Australia and you will see Nissans, Toyotas and Landrovers. Something that we are always concern of is availability of parts and someone who can work on your car. Get too exotic and you will be loading it on to a truck for a ride home.
Our group have 8 80/100 series Landcrusiers, a Patrol, A Pajero and A Isuzu dual cab. We have all had issues with reliability from time to time but the majority of us are on our second or third Cruisers and see no reason to change.

That's true, but with keeping the vehicle more level comes the benefit of having the center of gravity lower which will make the possibility of flipping less likely.Originally Posted by crisis
I have read where people do that. I think that has more to do with the driver in all honesty.Originally Posted by aNOBLEman
