Hill climbing is definitely the most badass form of motorsport.

No kidding. If seeing a seemingly pipsqueak Pug with all sorts of F16 parts on it fly up a 30 degree mud incline doesn't entertain, I don't know what does.

I must be pretty scary hill climbing... especially in an overly powerful car. One slight mistake could pretty much topple you off a cliff.
I'm afraid this is a signature, a very pathetic one.

It's like the bastard child of rallying and track racing. Back in the 50's and 60's it was quite important with manufacturers like Porsche and Ferrari entering the European Championships with factory cars.

    Woah. That's an awesome video.

I suspect that hill-climbing might mean different things in different places, cos hill climbing over here is a time trial up a tarmac track, usually run by classic car clubs, generally amateur. Don't recall seeing any of them being off-road.

European way of hillclimb racing is the way you describe it, except that here is a bit more serious with single seaters, former endurance racers and touring car racers as well as some rally cars, and also there are european and national championships that used to be quite important.

The only difference that I can appreciate with the Pikes Peak race is that here the cars race in a (smooth) dirt road and some different clases of vehicles but that's all. By the way, outside the Pikes Peak is hillclimb racing popular in the US?

The Midwest way of hillclimbing would be to have special dirt treated motorcycles climb up a very steep, rugged slope for a couple hundred feet. Really took off in the 40s-60s wot with Harley Davidson and all.
