So you are saying an engine with a larger displacement is per definition tuned. It makes no sense!Originally Posted by Dino Scuderia

Just to end this. The 4-litre engine produces more torque per litre than the road going unit. And it's only 2bhp/litre below the 4.3-litre engine. Now you know that if we took the restrictors off the race engine it's figure would increase, and it's very probable indeed it would surpase the road engine's specific output. In fact it's even probable that the racing engine would surpase the road engine in absolute terms.Originally Posted by Dino Scuderia
The figures for your information are:
Race car: 440bhp/460Nm
Road car: 483bhp/465Nm

The road engine has restrictions as well.Originally Posted by Ferrer

No it is not. It would be detuning if they lowered the compression, fitted milder cams etc. This engine is tuned to produce the maximum amount of torque and horsepower with the mandatory restrictors.Originally Posted by Dino Scuderia

Ooh, that's the worst kind of restrictor of all.Originally Posted by whiteballz
As far as I know it doesn't. Except you mean the exhaust and emissions restrictions to make it road legal. The racing engine doesn't have to comply with those rules and as result it can be more heavily tuned than the road engine.Originally Posted by Dino Scuderia

Let me get this right, what you're basically saying is that the 4.3-litre engine in race spec (the same as the 4-litre engine) and without the restrictors would be less performing than the original road going engine?

No, not saying that. Without the restrictors I doubt it would be less.Originally Posted by Ferrer
There's too much we don't know like the rev limiter on the race electronics etc. The 4.0 maxes HP@7000 where the stock 4.3 maxes 43 more HP @8500...but torque peaks at about the same @5200/5250.
In hypothetical world anything can do just about anything. Hypothetically the 4.3 in race config without the restriction of air and electronic restricting wouldn't amount to detuning because displacement was unchanged.
Hypothetically the HP per litre/torque wouldn't change.
Hypothetical questions, meh, a waste of time mostly.
