So today, I almost killed myself. I had to put a battery in a truck, so I dropped the battery in, took the red wire, put it on the positive, took the black wire, put it on the negative. (the way it should be). Next thing I hear is the battery fizzing, and a fuse wire catch on fire and melt. Then I realized the battery cables were on wrong, the red was actually the ground, the black was actually the positive. So if it weren't for that fuse, I would have had the battery blown up in my face...
On a more positive note a guy brought in a '65 impala that hadn't been run for 30 years. The engine was seized, the brakes didn't work, so it was going to get stripped and junked. We spent all day working on it trying to get it started, went through 4 distributors, a starter and set of spark plugs. Oh yea, and 1qt of jack oil and 2 qts of ATF. We poured that down the carb and in the spark plug holes to get the necessary compression to start the motor. After that it started right up and filled the garage with smoke, it was hard to see a foot in front of you. Now remember the car hadn't been run since '76, so about 30 years, pure craziness. Then we bled the brakes for shits and giggles, they worked. Then for even more shits and giggles, we tried the clutch, it shifted through all 4 gears. We then proceeded to do burnouts with it.
And I also started working at an autobody shop.
