I believe these carsmight:
TVR Cerbera Speed Twelve
Mercedes Benz CLK GTR/CLR
TVR Cerbera Speed Twelve - 386 km/h (240 mph)
Mercedes Benz CLK GTR - 330 km/h (205 mph)
Mercedes Benz CLR - 349 km/h (217 mph)
I guess that's all, we would have hearded about it if there were any more. Certainly there are those 1000+ hp tuned cars and a bunch of CanAm racers, but no more. Watch the drawings of kids though, there are cars reaching light speed. And there was that movie with two Mach 2 speed record brakers racing against each other. I can't remember its title (and they weren't wheel-driven). And it would also be interesting to know what had been tried out on proving grounds in secrecy. We will never know about them.

Are you sure the Dauer 962 LM (my favourite) goes to the Tuned/modified group? If you ask them to make one for you (and you have the 1million Euros ) they will by a 962 racecar and turn it into a streetcar. I think this is the border between the stock street-legal sportscars and the modified ones like the Sledgehammer or a Venom. But as a streetcar it is not modified from a previous one.
I'm not sure, but let it stay there - it won't matter on the final list (there won't be classification as it is now for clear view only).
Maybe yes... and maybe not...
Once again I've found something interesting - some archival thread from a-cars.com message board: here.
The offical record for a semi-street legal belongs to a 1991 Twin Turbo Pontiac Trans Am with a 355 c.i. small block making 1400 horses. It's top speed of 298 (yup 298) mph makes it the fastest stock bodied production car in history. Is it true? The Worlds fastest car is Andre's modified Nissan sunny 1.5lx from Barbados. It is outfitted with the skyline GT-R 99 TURBO CHARGER AND BRUTUS SUPER CHARGER IT WAS CLOCKED BY LOCAL POLICE DOING 256MPH @2A.M JANUARY 4 2001.
The MG EX-181 ran at Boneville over 400, but it's not the usual one.
This MG can go to Bonneville streamliners group (interesting list here) which is out of this list.
There is one more amazing race car: Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak - 987 hp in 1886lbs/855,5kg car with 4WD!
From conceptcarz.com:
(...) The Suzuki Pikes Peak Version is still a wonder to the manufacters at Suzuki, they have already commented on how ludacris it is to have a vehicle with not only speeds over 255+, infact, when having properly been tuned by the official Suzuki Racing Team mechanical proffesionals, this monster machine can reach speeds of over 290. First paragraph of news release from SSC:
WEST RICHLAND, WA., March 1, 2007 – SSC, manufacturer of
exclusive super cars, announced today that testing to set the world
production speed record will commence on March 21st, 2007. In
conjunction with MKM Racing, SSC has closed down a 12-mile
stretch of Highway 93 in Elko County, Nevada to attempt to break
the 253 mph record currently held by the Bugatti Veyron. MKM
Racing has been hired to oversee safety and provide laser traps to
verify speeds to an accuracy of .01 mph.

Today, their website is... strangely silent. Does anyone know what happened?
(Apparently there's an official" definition of "production." But I have no idea which officials did the defining or what the definition is.)
Didymus (new here)
Well, I wonder what the results were on it since it had to have happened yesterday.

Record was not broken: http://sscaero.com/20070325.asp
