How much is a tom-tom? You can get a decent NAV equipped in-dash screen for about $700.

Over here a TomTom is about 700$ and a built in about $1300 minimum...

really... We went to the Czech Rep. without a TomTom or whatsoever, and we didn't get lost a single time. Just used the good old map.

Then, we went to Croatia with a €1.000.000 navigation system and the bitch couldn't even find the biggest camping in the whole freeking country. At the end we just used the map and road signs again.

What did we learn: save a million and just use a map...

If you drive alone it can be quite dangerous though it distracts a lot, not even to mention the stuff blocking your acces to the car's controls such as the shifter..

With a passenger, it is ideal though

GPS has to be the best invention in the world.

Clive and I got lost in wales when we were looking for somewhere and our GPS took us to where we needed to go! it's just amazing, and then we felt hungry and looked for places to eat... it's genius!

well I think so anyway...

My mom and dad's cars have German navigation systems which have lovingly been named Holga and Dieter, respectively.

We've named our Sat nav too... and people look at us when I say "where's Sally? Is she in my bag?!" they think i'm really 'special'!

True ! But i encountered a few times that by the time I got my map off the passenger seat, the traffic started going again... After a three hours of searching I called my class mate and he went driving right in front of me.
