doesnt have to do with millimeters. all canon mounts on currently produced lenses and most from last 20 ish years are same mount. but, i dont know if the extender works with non-L zoom lenses. a lot of lenses will conflict with the rubber moount with a glass element in it that sticks out the top of the entender.

Why are you wanting to extend the lens you have? I had the very same 75-300mm. It yields extremely poor results at 300mm as it is. You'd lose two stops if you could attach the extender anyway. That would make this lens totally unusable in anything but direct sunlight. Your best bet would be to get a new lens that accepts the teleconverter or a new lens that is already over 300mm. Have you looked at Sigma lenses??

This had me thinking, can one fit old lenses from analog camera's into digital one's?

Unless you get a Pentax AF extender, which can make MF lenses AF

yea i'll be having a thing like that in the sony i'm buying in the nearest future; i'm getting two lenses with it but my old minolta 35-120 will suit as well and i'll be buying some 50 mm as well later on

but you have to reestimate the lenghts - digitals have x1.5 of analogue

yes, as long as they are autofocus. I recently sold a Minolta Telelens from an analog SLR to somebody who had a digital version....(I think you could even fit non-AF lenses, but I would not advise to do so)

Don't waste your money on extenders. They lower the image quality by a lot. Plus you lose a few stops which can result in no AF or metering on some bodies with cheap lenses (f5.6 being the limit on some cameras). Altough I'm not sure on that last bit when it comes to Canon, I'm a Nikon man.

And yes you can put all Canon EF lenses on the new digital bodies AFAIK. Maybe there are a few execeptions. The pre-EF lenses do NOT fit on digital Canons nor on EOS Canons. Go Nikon for full backwards compatibility with MF lenses.
