Mini.... something small, simple, practical, fun .... was over-engineered hence under-maintained... why can't they just do something that's simple and reliable? I mean... couldn't BMW manufacture a mini the way Toyota manufacture a Yaris?

Yeah, but the German engineering makes that difficult.
You see, they need to shove everything + some extra crap that you don't need into the econo(can we say that?)box Mini.
However, the Yaris was engineered to provide simple, no-frills transportation.
I'm dropping out to create a company that starts with motorcycles, then cars, and forty years later signs a legendary Brazilian driver who has a public and expensive feud with his French teammate.
