Regarding crowds... most people don't their houses and apartments in very crowded areas, like downtown New York or London or Tokyo.

So, if there is not too much crowding where you live, it should get a rating of about 7. If you are way out in the country, the crowd factor would be 9 or 10, meaning there is plenty of room.
For those who live in the mid-city, with tons of people, then the crowd rating would be low, like 2 or 3.

That's why my area is currently a "5," when it used to be a "9" in the 1950s and an "8" during the '60s. A lot more people have moved into the San Fernando Valley since the '50s.

I am also assuming that most people don't like very crowded areas.

I love Paris, although I wouldn't like to take a car there... Every car has a parking ding and almost every van is graffitied - adds to culture I guess - Need to go there again!

Strange when it's possibly the city where I've seen more expensive cars, except Montecarlo perhaps. Altough it's true that when I was in Nice last year, the driving experience was mental.

Town----------------------------- Milpitas, CA (where I was raised)
Population------------------------ 62698 as of 2000. Metro area - SF Bay Area, 7,5mln
    Elevation------------------------- Approx. 50ft.

    Climate & environment------------ 10
    Scenery & views----------------- 7
    Crowds-------------------------- 5 (what crowds?!)
    Medical availability--------------- 5
Housing expense----------------- 3 (avg. house ~$600.000)
    Cost of living--------------------- 2
    Taxes--------------------------- 2
    Recreation & culture-------------- 6
    Special senior citizen services----- 6
    Pollution-------------------------- 9
Fog (less days= higher rating)----- 8
    Cars, variety available------------- 10
    Shopping------------------------- 8
    Police & fire protection------------ 8

    Overall rating---------------------- 7

Most-liked features---------------- Great scenery, lots of different cultures, almost anything you want is available in the metro area if not in Milpitas itself, excellent access to freeway infrastructure, great universities.
Least-liked features--------------- High taxes, cost of housing, auto registration, and gasoline prices. Crowded, bad traffic. Stupid laws like requiring new low-energy bulbs not only are demeaning to people who should be free to make their own choices, but give California a bad rap --->don't be seen in another state with CA tags. You WILL be pulled over.

Trivia----------------------------- Was on Sesame Street once - one of the "game shows" had a trip to beautiful Milpitas, CA as the grand prize! Milpitas means "Little Corn Field" in Spanish. Oldest surviving building was erected in 1915 and is currently a sports bar.
