I know the problem, but the limit is still 130, despite earlier efforts from Berlusconi to allow 150 on three lane motorways during the daytime...

I have to say the Autostrada from Milan to Roma is just spectacular utterly wide and straight. If the conditions allow I don't find it dangerous to do a certain speed above the legal limit.

To quote Mr Clarkson, "there should be Minimum speed restrictions, with snipers picking off those that can't make it" - being stuck behind busses etc is so infuriating and even dangerous when the old ladies decide it's safe to overtake when there's a huge Range Rover rounding the upcoming bend...

    I remember that. Crazy Clarkson.

It is true though. It slows down the city. Literally.

I know, I drove it all the way down to Naples, and I am sure you remember the stretch between Bologna and Florence which is anything but wide and straight...

nobody is proposing that, people are now buying BMWs that won't go over 250. Would they stop buying them if they can't go faster than 160?

You're completely right, italian motorways are either very wide and completely straight or twistier than a mountain road...

Of course I was referring to the straight bits. Speed in itself isn't dangerous. Inadequate speed is.
