Oh well, I guess I have to look at BMW and Volvo if I want an I6 in a car nowadays.

In three years time, yes. It'll probably be a good thing, improving packaging. Whilst Ford's have had good front suspension set ups for a while, they've been held back by big heavy engines in the nose. They've fixed the V8 with the Orion by pushing it back and down, but there's only so much they can do with a 4ltr I6. It's time for the I6 to die, it's at the end of its life.

Unfortunately yes, so it seems. Altough there's rumour which says that the Jaguar XF will have Volvo's straight six under the bonnet. And you can always buy a GM SUV with the 4.2-litre straight six engine if you're that desperate...

Notice in the quote that I actually said car and not vehicle in general.

I made sure to specifically put car because I don't plan on driving any 4X4 or truck in the near future.

Its the unfortunate truth. Theres only so much more they could do with it before they needed the new block, which basically wouldve meant they may as well make a completely new engine.

And like GM did in the late 80's to Holden there is no way they will allow FordOz to build a new complete engine for themselves, But in the end it will open more doors to FordOz and that is more important then history, Because you can't take history with you into the grave.
And perhaps in 10+ years some who now might not be happy with this move will understand in time when the Falcon is on our roads built here and not a memory of the past then they will understand why it was inevebdable.

I'm happy with the move, V6's won't be shit on as much anymore.
