    Saloon Cars

    Which car do you prefer?
    1.Audi A8L
    2.Mercedes S-Class
    3.BMW 7 Series
    4.Jaguar XJ

Well the whole reason for this is because my mom had an accident with my dad's A8L 4.2 Quattro a few months back and my dad got rid of it cause it was not worth repairing. But now, my mom is thinking on the S-Class because she thinks Mercedes is more prestigous. However my dad owned the A-Class and S-Class before the Audi and he got rid of the A-Class because it had so many faults in it and traded in the S-Class because it was just old. So now my dad thinks that Mercedes has poor servicing and built quality and so he hasnt decided on which one to get.

If possible compare the mid range engines and not the top end engines. Sorry if i did not mention it before. Thanks.

Just pick one base on comfort, space, performance, fuel economy…basically everything.

Well the list wasn't there when I first posted.

Out those probably the S-Class which still is the benchmark, since the XJ has been ruined by the rubbish facelift. Altough in truth I'd really prefer the Quattroporte.

    2002 Audi S8, E38 750iL, Mercedes S65, ZIL 117, Lotus Carlton, Sierra Cosworth, 1969 Mercedes 600, new A8/S8, Jaguar Mk X, E39 M5, etc

    I love saloon cars.

From your list, probably the A8 or S Class

For me a little doubt. At first glance I would say an Audi S8, although a S63 AMG doesn't sounds bad either...

Strictly from the list I'd go Audi, but I would have to reconsider if that Benz was an AMG. Pretty much the entire 7 series looks like total sh!t and Jaguar just doesn't stand out enough for me.

While the MB S class is bound to have the latest gadgets and gizmos, I too would go with the Quattroporte. It's the best looking of them all, has more presonality and isn't as common as the others.

He said that wasn't looking for power, although you might have posted before he edited his post.

Of these, I would say the BMW 7 Series or the Audi A8L. Both very nice. However, you couldn't go wrong with any of the choices, except for maybe the Jaguar, which could be more of a headache when it comes time for service than the others. Although I don't own any of these, so maybe you could go to another forum focusing more on those cars and ask around.

You could ask a mod to add a poll option.

Also, it would help to tell us which part of the world you're from so that we have a general idea of how much yours or our choices would cost for you.

I'd go with Quattroporte. But if it's too hard for your parents to accept a non mainstream brand, A8 or Phaeton will be my other suggestions. Well for Phaeton you guys would have to go over the brand perception (but over here VW had almost the same prestige as Audi); 7 is too common and ugly in styling, XJ ruinned itself big time, S is just downright UN-CLASS. .... it's styling contradicts the brand big time.... that pronounced wheel arch is just downright vulgar. ..... sadly even the LS is styled better IMO, but i hate the LS' interior.

If it had to be MB, I'd get CLS over S anytime.

    Well, QP, A8 then.

    Inevitably I choose Audi.

Mercedes build quality isn't that great and their customer service is dire.
    Buy a BMW and people think you're a wanker and it's a bit cliche'd.
Jaguar XJ is just too old. And it's a car for old eccentrics in Kent.
The Audi is fresher I think and more understated.

Out of the list you provided I say the 7 series. It's a great car imo.

The Jag is old, boring and since the facelift UGLY! Everyone says Audi.. I'd prefer the BMW, a lot of people dont like it.. i do!! The facelift on the BMW 7 DID work.. I LOVE THE NEW 7SERIES!!!

735d, it is the pragmatic choice IMO if you are looking at mid-range engines in a large sedan. It has everything the Merc has but the engine is one of the best.
