I really really hate the american Elise .. its a lightweight sportscar, not a luxury car! Leave the friggin' Airbag out! Next you'll be telling me it has power steering Oh well - whatever rocks their boat I suppose.
They are required by law to have front airbags for the driver and passenger. And since when are airbags a luxury item?

Nice pics Matt
and yea honestly airbags are not a luxury there an essential!
yea, there would be no american elise without airbagsOriginally Posted by :Exige:
Since theyre not included in the UK version. I know its the law but it doesnt mean it doesnt make the interior clumsy and the car heavier. Its also the people who complain that america doesnt get the Elise then they get one and say its crap because its cramped and lacks cup holders (mainly businessmen who Lotus say have been buying most of them America). But IMO airbags arent essential .. there are plenty of people who have written Elises off completley and have come out unscathed.
Nice pics Matt!
The entire airbag system - computer and all - must weight less than 30 pounds. Personally, I think my safety is very much worth having an extra 30 pounds onboard. Why don't you just go ahead and take out the windows, take out the seatbelts, take every bit of padding out of the interior, take out the side impact beams and remove the bumpers altogether. Crumple zones? Who needs 'em? They all add weight. I'd rather drive a great-handling Dixie cup. It would weight nearly nothing! Do you also complain about the weight of gas when you fill up your tank?

Thanks for all the fish

Too difficult for the morons to comprehend so we all get lumbered.
BTW if you compete in a car the first thing you are required to prove to the scrutineer is that you have properly disabled the airbags !!
