    in europe the product lines share a lot of technology. i reckon both have their good/bad points. i think your judging percieved images or reputation there.

    Well, i KNOW Volvo are some of the BEST cars out there, not to mention the SAFEST, and i KNOW that Fords dont hold their value for shit, my parents own one, not to mention they clunk out and have all different kinds of problems...

    I mean .... the badge is always what that matters for cars. I guess 99.99% of the world's total car owner judge a car by the brand, which in many sense is totally understandable and somewhat, a good 60% of determining whether the car's good or not whether it's the initial build, aesthetics, and most importantly the availability and price of parts, and the perceived servicing quality.

    Brand does matter.

    EDIT: If you don't build your car well, it reflects the brand, good example being Mercedes, and the other way round, Skoda.
