No, they haven't officially beaten the record, but the Veyron can do the stated 407kmh top whack, Top Gear did it, and I imagine that there'd be a couple of owners who've taken their cars the VW track to do it as well. The Veyron will go faster as well, 407kmh is about ~500rpm shy of the rev-limiter in 7th.

How will the slow selling Veyron survive without its biggest sales pitch...

Actually, as difficult as this might be to grasp, the Veyron is still capable of doing 407km/h, because it's still the same car that it was last week.

The difference being that somebody else has gone 3 or 4 mph faster. In a car that has an interior from a 1990 Austin Metro, no apparent power steering or electronic aids and brakes "with almost no feel or power". (Autocar's words, not mine.)

I think it's safe to say that the Veyron won't lose any sales to this thing, top speed holder or otherwise.

So all these Veyron top speed are worthless, its like some skyline fanboi sprouting off about their friends 280hp Skyline beating the Veyron.......i.e. no proof of their tests or tests not valid (might be because of wind direction and speed which is critical for top speed runs).

How is the Veyron's top speed claims any less factuous than SSC's? Neither is an official, Guiness recognised record but just a manufacturers claim. And I'd say a Veyron doing a GPS-confirmed 407kmh on a TV show a little more believable than SSC's claims.

SSC's record is official. Veyron never tested under "top speed record rules"...the SSC did. Suck it up and try again.

As difficult as it might be for you to grasp...fastest car in the world means something...regardless of what the SSC's interior looks like. It isn't likely the two cars would be cross-shopped, and I'm not saying that the Veyron would lose sales to the SSC...but not being able to claim "world's fastest car" does reduce value.

Only to those on car forums that love to brag.

To prospective owners its still the best "high speed" car out there.

To do it in style and with creature comforts is something to be proud of.

    That's not what was said.

I'd take a well engineered, extremely well appointed luxury GT supercar over something which no doubt was so twitchy on the limit it was lucky they got a reading.

surely 407Kp/H is fast enough for the average billionaire, anyway.

So they are giving the Ultimate Aero TT (what a stupid name - I never really thought of how crap a name it was) more power increasing power to 1287 hp up from 1183 hp which is an 104 hp increase by my math. Claimed top speed is 270 mph which gives me little perspective so I shall metrify it which yields... 435 km/h. If it's true, it is still fast albeit slightly faster yet the car remains ugly to me. I wonder how it'd do on say the top gear track however - can it turn back and forth well?

No way 100hp gives you an extra 15+ mph at those speeds, unless it has turned into that sheep-piss/fish Mercedes and has an impossibly small Cd.

They made big claims before and I think they fell short so this may be hogwash as well. I don't have drag equations lying around me and the necessary info to calculate if it makes sense or not however.

well they can make it as fast as they want, but it's all irrelevant because you can't outrun ugly.
