GM anxious to test the Corvette ZR1 around Nurburgring

Motortrend interviews Tom Wallace (corvette chief engineer) – 2008 Detroit Motor Show

“were anxious to get [zr1] to the ring because there’s some people trying to take our record away at the ring and I predict at worst 7:30’s at the ring, we think we might even see some 7:20’s”

I'm not sure, but by the looks of those brakes, this thing may be quicker around a track than I originally thought.

    ..at the ring.

7:20's would be very impressive, is this thing using the same or similar body/chassis as the Z06?

Exciting... I can't wait for the results. I heard about the brakes before, but I didn't know they were like the enzo's, like "Mr. Corvette" said, this car will STOP.

From what ive heard the ZR1 back = Enzo front CC brakes, and ZR1 front = modified Ferrari FXX front CC brakes. Both ZR1 and the two Ferraris use Brembos as their supplier.

    * front brakes are carbon-ceramic discs taken straight from the ferrari FXX, although ground down to 15.5"(from 15.75") for wheel clearance, and squeezed by 6 piston brembos

    * rear brakes are 15" carbon-ceramic discs off the front end of the ferrari enzo, and squeezed by 4 piston brembos

No one else thinks that maybe an official from GM should arrouse interest in a GM car by saying that it will do 7:20? No doubt it could but I will believe it when I see it.

and rightfully so.. but that doesn't mean people who discredit this won't be the same who took nissan's time without objection

Then why don't they do it?

Probably Jan Magnussen has said no after his frightening experience when hauling the Z06 around the ring?

From what I gathered Jan and GM didnt really take the record run seriously as compared to other manufacturers. Some like Nissan take weeks and even months testing the car and trying to get the best time. Others like GM flew Jan in and within 4 laps set their record time and flew him out again to chase a win their their GT1 program. With the hype generated by the GTR and its run, im sure GM has seen the marketing value in setting a fast lap. Hopefully they dont half-arsed their ZR1 attempt.

Considering the importance most performance oriented manufacturers put on A quick Nurburgring lap time (GM included - I remember hearing a huge crow about the fact the old CTS-V was quicker than the E39 M5 or similar) surely they would have done some testing on said track?

It's possible they don't do it now because it's January.
