While Eastern Creek would be a great venue in many respects, I'd love to know how they're going to get 100,000 plus spectators in and out of there. While there is direct access of the M4 Freeway, it doesn't have enough car parking, and the queues (and therefore traffic jams on the M4) would be enormous. There are no decent public transport links into Eastern Creek. Spectators could be bused in from Blacktown Railway Station - but that would also be a logistical headache.
I guess part of that $300K will be spent working out exactly how to get an F1 sized crowd in and out of there.
However, since I'm Sydney based, I do hope this comes to fruition. It will make it much cheaper and easier for me to attend an F1 race than it currently is.

Do they still have the dirt access roads?

Yes, the main access road from the M4 is a dirt road.

Somehow i dont think thats an official entry. Their website only lists entry through Brabham Drive. That dirt road looks more like a fire trail.

When Regi and myself went to the A1, we had to come in and out of EC by a dirt track. And it was pretty deep dirt as well, not hard packed or anything. Was quite fun hooning by people in low-slung cars in the Scoob.

Was this into the track itself, like into the parking area and around the back of the circuit?

Into the parking area down behind the last turn down to the grandstand.

Melbourne has been saved, at least until 2015.

    Formula 1

Race will start later than usual, 5 PM local time.

    Bernie at his backflipping best.

    Now:
The Australian Grand Prix has always been a great show, with some of the biggest crowds in Formula 1.

I have wanted changes to the local race time so that we can increase the television audience in Europe and Asia.

I’m satisfied that the decision to move to later start time for 2009 is a win for television audiences in Europe and Asia, a win for Melbourne and a win for Formula 1 as a whole.”
    Then:
Maybe we don't want to be in Australia. Our costs are very high in Australia and we get a lot less money. It's bloody bad for us.

The only way the race could stay in Melbourne, or anywhere else in Australia, is if it is staged during the night so that the public in Europe can watch it.

The alternative is to pull the race completely from Australia. I've spoken to (new prime minister) Kevin Rudd and he's told me it would cost too much to re-stage the race, so I guess that's it. We won't be going to Australia for too much longer
