This guy is so lazy that only one eye was left...
Yes, as the cost of designing, tooling up, then producing a significantly different body is vastly more expensive than changing the badges.
Thanks for all the fish
Yeah they've been doing this forever. The 'new' Gto is really a holden monaro, and in Africa its a Lumina SS. Same with all thier trucks, the GMC trucks and chevy trucks are the same.

yep thats what he means, it also the vaxhaul monaro but it isn't covering up as much as the potiac GTO. there are other examples from GM but we would be here a long time.
Well in the UK, the Vauxhall brand is still used for Opel cars.Originally Posted by porlamfer

Don't know whether it's the heritage of Vauxhall brand or just nationlism
So Vauxhall has a differnet grille from it's Opel counterpart and that's about it
Personally I now prefer the VX220 Vauxhall grille with it's deep slash over the Opel one.

Its actually the only way companies can make money these days. GM have about 5 or 6 platforms that will be the base for Chevs, Pontiacs, Holdens , Opels, SAABS etc from now on. Ford will do the same as will Daimler Chrysler and about every other manufacturer who wants to be aroun in ten years. (exotics excluded).Originally Posted by porlamfer

Supercars aren't excluded!
Pagani Zonda and Chrysler ME 4-12 prototype?
Audi Lemans Concept and Lamborgini Gallardo?
It's invading, it's a good way to go it, and it's cheap.
Its..............PLATFORM SHARING!
<cough> www.charginmahlazer.tumblr.com </cough>
The Pagani and the ME412 aren't platform sharing.
Pagani merely helped with the engineering.
It uses a different drivetrain, which probably wouldn't fit in the Zonda Chassis.
(7.3 V12 naturally aspirated, with a six speed 'box in the Zonda, 6.0 twin turbo V12 with a seven speed gearbox in the ME412)
Thanks for all the fish
The Daewoo Lacetti wagon has a more Chevy-like front facia while the the Chevrolet Optra’s looks more Daewooish.
I wonder whether we might see, in the not-so-far future, the few remaining global auto groups (between two and four) share the cost effort of designing the basic platforms or architectures for each market segment, and then build them with different motorisation, equipments, and designs.
However, how to you explain the 1996 Ford GT90 concepts, resemblences to the Chrysler ME-412, Different conpanies, same engine and styling
To Some, a rusted out 1989 GMC Suburban* is trash
But to Me, its home
What exactly are you trying to say?Originally Posted by bk4uyeah

Ford GT90 : V12 comprised of two Ford V6's mated together, with four turbos, but never ran with at maximum boost IIRC.
ME-412: An AMG tuned Mercedes V12, with four turbo chargers.
The styling has some similarities, but then so do a lot of cars.
