That photo is OLD and faaaake. I remember it surfacing shortly after the attacks. Then there was a website where people took that guy and placed him in all sorts of historical moments, hilarity ensued (there was everything from the Hindenberg to the Last Supper and Jesus' birth)

I didn't spend my time analysing it and simply came here for some quick clarification.
You can tell how much of photoshop I know.

it's simply impossible that the pic is real...
the simple fact that the camera wouldn't exist anymore is a sufficient proof, or the fact that no one would be as calm as the dude on the pic.
it's a photochop even without looking at the image

and how did it happen? I think I have hard a similar story
my brother fell from about 40 feet. he survived without any major injure, but just because he landed on his left hand, and the bones of the end at the point were gone. he still can't use properly the hand after almost 10 years and a couple of surgeries, and probably he never will.
