On what matter is he not the go to guy?
If you should see a man walking down a crowded street talking aloud to himself, don't run in the opposite direction, but run towards him, because he's a poet. You have nothing to fear from the poet - but the truth.

My Dad wanted to marry my mother when he was 19 and my mother was 22, she turned him down the first time.

However, they have been together nearly 27 years now, so obviously that Might have been a bit young......

I suppose I could get merried when my situation will allow that. for instance, living in a place at least for the next 5/10 years, or find a good and secure job.
a year dating with the lady could be fair enough, it's up to the people involved. surely 25 is a good age, just because usually people younger than that are still too tending to enjoy some other aspects of life, and they would trash the marriage. but it's not equal for everyone.
imo it's not a big deal, just do it with the right attitude.

A good time to get married depends on your status...

If you know you can undrstand each other and you know that you could carry the burdens together and it also helps if one or both of you have jobs to support yourselves and your upcoming child/children, sure you can get married... why not?

even if I can understand this "romantic" point of view, I disagree. I think one of the keys for a good marriage is the capability to carry on your own interests and passions without merging in a single individual.
I think that being able to live just for another person could be a symptom of a lack of personality, at minimum, or the fact that basically you don't have a proper life of your own and you are relying on someone else.
and if something goes wrong, you are F*****.
besides, if someone found an interesting person once, you should stick with being yourself as before you met, and in the same way she (or he) shouldn't try to change anything in the other person.

I think there has to be a balance.

When you lose yourself in the relationship, it's dangerous, to say the least. Things can go very, very badly.

But if you don't engage emotionally at all, you run the risk of losing all human feeling.

I think the best type of relationship is one where both parties accept it as a partnership of equals - not a mergin of two into one.

But there may also be times where compromise is needed... At least when you know it will end up for the better...

Aren't Balance & Compromise essentially the same concepts?

In arguments, compromise is a concept of finding agreement through communication, through a mutual acceptance of terms—often involving variations from an original goal or desire. Extremism is often considered as antonym to compromise, which, depending on context, may be associated with concepts of balance, tolerance. In the negative connotation, compromise may be referred to as capitulation, referring to a "surrender" of objectives, principles, or materiale, in the process of negotiating an agreement. In human relationships "compromise" is often said to be an agreement that no party is happy with.
