then I agree with you. Here they (Mac) cost even more than there, but the simply fact that my father (58, and one who got his first pc when about 52) can use the iMac without calling me every five minutes to ask me how something works(as he used to do when he was using a pc), is quite worth for me.
IMO they have a greater value, perhaps not proportioned to the price, but more than what a pc does. they have some peculiar characteristics that make you prefer those to a pc, for example the fact that the iMac handles RAW files as if they were jpeg makes me love it.
the problem with Mac is that a lot of people buy it just because it's white (the equivalent of a red car I suppose) and obviously cool. the most of the are not going to even use it properly, nor they do with a pc though.

if there isn't any kind of an insult there, I agree (I want a Mac, need a "machine" but I'm tired of winzoz and absurd evolving of the hardware it requires)

Where does the money go.. OS X? And I hate the god damn Mac cult.
Subtract like $100-200 with the education discount. I got a MacBook Pro which was pretty expensive but I chopped around $300-$400 off the price with the student discount (well worth it).

ps. Apple doesn't ask for verification so technically anyone is eligible.

    Ah I see...

As for me, I'm heading off to some kind of University next year, and the MacBook + "free" iPod touch and "free" printer deal is looking really good.

Basically, get a mac if you want a laptop, get a PC if you want a desktop.

There is a reason people spend time & effort creating parallels so that they can run Windows on their beloved Mac.

As a design student I have to say these things are rampant because, in the end, they can make your work look pretty. But I went for a Windows and saves nearly $1000 for the specs I was looking for, and to be honest couldn't be happier.

Horses for courses, But given the choice of design or cost I'm likely to be a tight fist.

The fact that you don't have to worry about viruses and adware AT ALL counts for alot in my books. I see mates with windows computers with all these random spyware/adware tool bars and what not and think of how glad I am that I don't get them anymore!

Thats because they likely visit unsavoury websites.

A proper virus scanning program & careful web browsing prevents this sort of thing.

But I don't have to be careful at all or pay money for a virus scanning program that needs to be updated every so often in order to prevent it
