I'd go for the Mustang. Cheap RWD V8 fun.

AWD definitely adds something, but it's not necessarily required for winter driving and often adds a false sense of security.
Well, I have to say I've never been to Idaho. I don't know what kind of roads you guys have and how(/if) they are maintained in winter time.

As far as winter driving is concerned good tires get you further than 4-wheel traction, but it's often a plus. In my opinion.

On highways and main roads it doesn't really matter, they are usually kept in quite good shape, but as I was saying in the country side, on icy gravel roads with little or no winter maintenance there can be problems.

I have had my moments of horror myself in 2wd cars as i was pushing up icy slopes and all of a sudden all I was getting was low rev wheel spin. As I applied the breaks the car started sliding downhill - backwards, with the wheels locked or not. Luckily that has only happened in straight slopes where the car was retreating down the same tracks as it came up.

I've attached two pictures I found to clear it up.

The snowy picture: There probably isn't much of a difference between FWD/AWD when it comes to "normal" elevation and driving. (I am aware that the normal is very subjective)

The summer-time picture: Add a bit of steep hills and ice and you'd be peeing your pants with 2wd.

I don't know if you agree or not? I've never owned an AWD car, the times I haven't been able to make it with 2WD I could probably count on one hand. But still, it has happened.

Would I think I need AWD if I was living in Finland again? No. Would I prefer AWD if I was driving as my job throughout the winter? Yes.

His post suggests US, I doubt the Mustang is sold outside America (and Canada).

I got the Mustang GT. No regrets.

The new Cobalt SS is actually surprisingly fast around a track - but it's still a Cobalt.
The HHR is just that, an HHR.

And yes, the Mustang is sold outside the US. I think it's about $160k for a GT vert in Denmark. Something completely ridiculous like that anyway.

Is the Mustang "cool" in Italy?

Or do they think it's garbage?

I personally wouldn't get a Mustang. Ever. But that's just my opinion, of course.

I've seen grey import GTs going for about 50 grand here as well.

Which is far too much money for such a car.

true, their real value is about 20/25.000 euro just converting from dollar to euro.
but at both prices, it's too big, has a huge engine freaking expensive to insurance, and drinks fuel as nothing. Z4 coupe, Cayman, Brera, 3 Series, A5, CLK and more...there are so much better options for our markets.

I would consider the Mustang only if I lived in North America.

50.000€ is more or less what a 335i Coupe costs here, which is better than the Ford in every conceibable way.

Or if it was sold here at US prices.

Yes that'd help, but even so if a V8 Mustang cost here 20 or 25 grand I'd consider it.
