Just following the same model as Jetta...Everything but the 2.0T model will run the torsion beam for the Beetle. I am sure its probably the same design as the Jetta...The 2 cars AFAIK are built side by side in Mexico....
Like the Jetta GLI, the 2.0T Beetle will have IRS, a variant of the control-blade style type(a la Focus) like the Golf...
FYI the Passat is full multi-link setup in all variants. They just cheap out on the engine option and no more 2.0T, for which you have to get the CC.
As far as actual performance goes, it won't handle any worse than the current Civic or Corolla anyway....which is what the Jetta is shooting for, and I'd bet most Beetle buyer with the 2.5 or the TDI don't care about performance as much...Beetle by all account will still have Golf-level of interior trim unlike Jetta's hard plastic interior, which probably annoys their buyers more. The Passat, aside from the bland look, seems to retain most of the VW interior trim level, and its much cheaper than the old one...
