Ford #1 in Canada for June

Ford Canada sales jump 25 percent in June - Forbes.com

TORONTO -- Ford Motor Co. of Canada Ltd. has claimed the top spot in Canadian vehicle sales in June for the first time in 50 years, the company reported Thursday.
    Ford: +25%
    GM: -31%
    Chrysler: -58%
    Toyota: -18%
    Honda: -17%

Discounting all the Pontiac runouts and such, apparently they were ahead of GM and Toyota for US sales last month as well.

I was thinking of posting this earlier but actually forgot to do so.

Pretty amazing news for Ford Canada and Ford in general.

    Who'da thunk it?

Chrysler and GM are handing it to them on a platter at the moment, so i dont think theres any achievement in topping them. Topping Toyota is the achievement IMO. Perhaps theres a good percentage of buyers who still percieve the big 3 as the only locals, and will still buy local before what they percieve as an import.

It's not Ford topping Toyota, but rather Toyota playing so bad. Ford has improved but not as much as Toyota is "declining".
So I think right now they are taking advantage of someone else issues. In this times, even playing average and safe is a good thing, so props to them.
With the present line-up things are shiny for their future.

Not declaring bankruptcy has certainly helped them. Ford could have a bright future if they play their cards well.

    That's a nice change.

And if I remember right, Ford never asked for money from the government, while the rest of the US automakers did, right?

Not bailout money at least. There'd be other grants and green fund BS they'd be getting access to.

The "rest" of the US automakers IIRC was only GM and Chrysler.

Saleen (dead), n2a Motors, Fisker, Tesla and a few others (without even considering tuning companies) may be a bit upset, but they are a bit smaller than those too.
Tesla got some green money too. I think only Fisker, of the major ones, didn't got money at all, afaik.

Then it'll only help the image of the company. Not a bad idea to do it without the help of the government. I mean, people are rightly annoyed that we help prop up a company that many people didn't want to help.

It shows that you're somewhat competent.

Tesla, of all companies? I consider them to be a vaporware company- behind on their promises, even worse with the delivery of their product.

And electric cars are not the way to go, at least with the technology we have. Production of electricity has to change, as well as the storage of it.

Put it this way: They tried going electric in the beginning, and petrol engines were better. It's still the same now. Go figure

i wonder why Chrysler has the highest flippin negative percentage. their cars are worth crap, their interiors are from Playskool toys, the cars get low quality scores, and they look cheap. is that good enough for Chrylser reason of epic crappiness?

Ford, Nissan and Tesla got the green money. GM and Chrysler got "TARP like" money.

Perhaps Canada's seeing a small boom in its auto market in general. BMW Canada sold 3000 cars in June for the first time.
